Tennessee State at Georgia Betting Tips – No Bulldogs Cover In College Football Week 1

In their first-ever matchup, Georgia takes on Tennessee State as a heavy favorite. Despite Georgia's superior squad and high expectations for a dominant win, betting history reveals the Bulldogs rarely cover massive point spreads under Coach Kirby Smart. Tennessee State, coming off a close season-opening loss, is tipped to stay competitive enough to cover, even as Georgia eyes a national title run. The recommendation: Georgia should win easily, but Tennessee State covering the spread is the safer bet.

Tennessee State are tipped to cover as a massive underdog in Georgia.

The Bulldogs are undoubtedly the better team and should win this game handsomely, but head coach Kirby Smart has not typically run up the score on lesser teams during his career.

Key Numbers – Will Bulldogs Double Digit Cover Struggles Continue?

  • Georgia have failed to cover in 9 of their last 11 games as a double digit favourite
  • Georgia have failed to cover in each of their last 11 games when favoured by 32.5+ points
  • The Under cashed in 8 of Georgia’s 12 regular season games in 2025

Tennessee State Dropped Season Opener

Tennessee State head to Georgia having already kicked off their 2026 season a week ago.

The Tigers came into the new season looking to improve on a 2025 campaign that saw them win just two times, but they did not get off to a successful start.

They took on Jackson State last Saturday, and suffered a 26-24 defeat at the FirstBank Stadium in Nashville.

Georgia Eye National Championship Crown

Georgia enter the new season with the same mission as always – win the SEC Championship and the National Championship.

The Bulldogs came up short in that quest last year, as they failed to turn conference glory into a national crown.

They booked their place in the conference championship by losing just one game – a 24-21 defeat when they entertained Alabama.

Georgia gained revenge in the SEC Championship Game though, as they secured another conference crown with a 28-7 victory over the Crimson Tide.

The Bulldogs made the College Football Playoffs despite that loss, only to crash out at the first hurdle as they lost 39-34 to Ole Miss in the Sugar Bowl.

Verdict

There is no doubt in our minds that Georgia will win big on Saturday – but it has been a long time since they ran up a score and covered a massive spread like this one.

We expect them to open up a big lead and then take their foot off the gas here, allowing Tennessee State to cover the number.
