Defending champions Griquas aim to bounce back from a narrow opening week defeat as they take on the Bulls in Kimberley. Despite a historical disadvantage in head-to-head meetings, the Griquas have won 7 of their last 9 Currie Cup matches and beat the Bulls convincingly last season. The Bulls, meanwhile, have struggled, losing 5 of their last 6 games. With a solid home record and strong squad, Griquas are tipped to win and cover the -9.5 handicap.

Griquas lost in round 1 last weekend as they attempt to defend their title. However, the Bulls were poor last season and looked below par again last weekend. I am backing a home win in Kimberley.

Key Stats - Griquas can Bounce Back

  • Griquas have won 7 of their last 9 matches (Currie Cup).
  • Griquas beat the Bulls by 21 points last season (Currie Cup).
  • Bulls have lost 5 of their last 6 fixtures (Currie Cup).

Bulls Lead but Recent H2H Points to Griquas

In 27 previous matches since 2010, the Bulls leda 20-6 with one draw.

Griquas Defending Champs

Reigning Currie Cup champions, the Griquas, started the defence of their title with a 25-19 defeat away to the Stormers last weekend after leading 12-8 at the break.

The Suzuki Griquas were in fine form in last year's competition. They lost 49-28 to the Pumas and defeated Boland 48-39, Western Province 47-17, the Sharks 26-17, the Bulls 42-21, and the Cheetahs 40-10 before losing to the Lions 37-7 during the regular season.

The team from Kimberley subsequently defeated the Cheetahs 25-5 in the semi-finals before edging the Lions 27-25 at the death to win their first Currie Cup title in 55 years.

The Griquas have won seven of their previous nine fixtures in the Carling Currie Cup and will look to bounce back with a victory against the Bulls, having defeated their opponents 42-21 last season.

Bulls Lost Five of Last Six

The Bulls had no answer in their Currie Cup opener against the Boland Cavaliers last weekend, losing 24-10 away from home after trailing 14-3 at half-time.

The team from Pretoria did not have much success in the competition last season. They defeated the Stormers 48-23 and the Sharks 64-0, and lost 41-7 to the Pumas, 28-20 to Boland, 42-21 to the Griquas, and 44-5 to the Lions before beating the Cheetahs 35-31.

The Vodacom Bulls will not be happy with their performance in their previous fixture, but have another tricky assignment to overcome when taking on the Griquas, as their opponents have often won at home in recent seasons.
