The Griquas, defending Carling Currie Cup champions, are set to host the unbeaten Cheetahs. Despite the Cheetahs' strong start with consecutive wins and sitting top of the log, Griquas have an 8-in-10 win record and have beaten the Cheetahs in their last three encounters, including a dominant showing against the Bulls. The article recommends backing Griquas to win and cover a -3.5 point handicap. Both teams feature in-form players with notable recent try-scoring performances. Full team news will be announced closer to the match.

Griquas are the defending champions and have won their last three against the Cheetahs. While the Cheetahs have opened their campaign with two wins, I feel they will fall in Kimberley on Friday.

Key Stats - Griquas in Great Form

  • Griquas have won 8 of their last 10 matches (Currie Cup).
  • Griquas have won 3 consecutive matches against the Cheetahs (Currie Cup).
  • Cheetahs lost by 20 points to the Griquas in their last meeting (Currie Cup).

Cheetahs Lead but Griquas have won the last Three

Cheetahs lead the overall H2H record but Griquas have won their last three Currie Cup encounters agains the men from Bloemfontein.

Griquas Back in Form

Defending Carling Currie Cup champions, the Griquas, bounced back to their best in their clash against the Bulls last weekend, winning 56-26 at home after leading 28-19 at half-time.

Before that performance, the team from Kimberley lost their opening match of the season away to the Stormers, going down 25-19.

The Suzuki Griquas are fourth in the Currie Cup table with six points from two matches.

The Griquas were in fine form against the Bulls and will fancy their chances of recording another victory when they host the Cheetahs, having won three in a row against their opponents.

Cheetahs Unbeaten after Two Rounds

The Cheetahs registered back-to-back victories in the 2026 Currie Cup after a late surge saw the home side beat the Sharks 43-21, with the score level at 14-14 at the break.

Before that, the Free State Cheetahs got over the line in their season opener against the Lions, winning 29-27 at home after slotting a late penalty.

The Toyota Cheetahs are first in the Currie Cup standings with ten points after two rounds.

The Cheetahs have won both their fixtures in the competition, but now play away from home for the first time this season against a Griquas side that performed well last weekend, and they lost to their opponents by 20 points in their last meeting.

Team News

Griquas

Bobby Alexander and Gurswin Wehr scored three tries each against the Bulls.

IG Prinsloo and Louis Oosthuizen scored a try each in the match.

George Whitehead slotted eight conversions last weekend.

The Griquas team will be added once it has been announced.

Cheetahs

Prince Nkabinde crossed the try line three times in the match against the Sharks.

Springbok Faf de Klerk and Juan Venter scored two tries each last weekend.

Jaco van der Walt kicked over four conversions in the match.

The Cheetahs team to face the Griquas will be added once it has been announced.
