Brazil has consistently ranked among the top teams this season and showcased their resilience by mounting a comeback to defeat Japan in the quarter-finals. As they advance, they now face Italy, widely considered favourites and reigning champions. However, the expectation is that Italy, despite their strong status, will not have an easy victory, suggesting a tightly contested semi-final match. The article highlights Brazil’s upward momentum and foresees a competitive battle, with no straightforward win for Italy.

Match Preview

Brazil and Italy met in last year's Volleyball Nations League final, where the Azzurri claimed a 3-1 victory. The latest odds favour Italy to repeat that result, but another closely fought contest is expected.

Brazil Chasing Revenge

Brazil finished the group stage in third place with a 9-3 record despite spending much of the campaign at the top of the standings.

Few expected the South Americans to stumble several times during Week 3, especially after opening it with victories over Japan (3-1) and Poland (3-1). Their momentum disappeared with a shock 3-0 defeat to Thailand before another straight-set loss to the United States in the final round.

Brazil dropped the opening set against Japan in the Volleyball Nations League quarter-finals but responded impressively, winning the next three sets in dominant fashion to secure a place in the semi-finals.

Italy Targeting Another Final

Italy Women are the reigning Volleyball Nations League champions, and the latest odds suggest they are well placed to defend their title in Macau.

The Azzurri finished the group stage with an impressive 10-2 record, enough to secure second place behind the United States while finishing ahead of Brazil and Turkey.

Italy closed June with a 3-0 victory over Japan before carrying that momentum into July with wins over Ukraine (3-1), Belgium (3-0), Canada (3-2) and China (3-2).

The defending champions looked unstoppable in the quarter-finals, sweeping aside the Netherlands in straight sets while allowing just 53 points.

Verdict

Brazil have spent most of the season among the tournament's top teams and produced an impressive comeback to eliminate Japan in the quarter-finals. Italy deserve to be favourites, but I don't see the reigning champions winning this one in straight sets.
