Anadolu Efes were one of the biggest disappointments in the EuroLeague this season, while also collecting fewer victories in the Super Lig than initially expected, finishing 4th in the standings with a 20-10 record.
Their form improved significantly in mid-April and early May though, earning back-to-back victories against Galatasaray 87-80, Turk Telekom 101-91 and Mersin 88-86 to strengthen their playoff position.
In the final regular season round, Anadolu Efes secured a convincing 113-79 victory over bottom-placed Buyukcekmece, posting outstanding shooting numbers with 71% for two pointers and 44% from beyond the arc. Sehmus Hazer and David Mutaf led the scoring with 17 points each.
Turk Telekom Hoping to Cause an Upset
Like their upcoming opponents, Turk Telekom failed to meet expectations in European competition, exiting the EuroCup in the semifinals after a 2-0 defeat to Bourg, while finishing the Super Lig regular season in 5th place with a 20-10 record.
Their performances in the final rounds were inconsistent. After a heavy 101-91 road defeat against Anadolu Efes in late April, they bounced back with a solid 81-72 victory against fellow playoff side Trabzonspor.
However, Turk Telekom closed the regular season with an 83-75 overtime defeat against struggling Manisa after collapsing offensively in the final quarter and scoring just 10 points. Uros Trifunovic was their standout performer with 21 points.
