Match Preview
Panathinaikos have enough experience and roster depth not to worry too much about last week's defeat against Hapoel. They are tagged as massive favorites against Baskonia, who recently appointed a new coach.
Panathinaikos Sitting Top of the Table
Panathinaikos faced little resistance in the opening three rounds, all played in Athens, outclassing Paris 91-72, ASVEL 102-70 and Maccabi Tel Aviv 90-67. Summer signing Sylvain Francisco impressed in these games, averaging 16 points and four assists.
Zeljko Obradovic's side made it four wins in a row by taking down another F4 candidate, Fenerbahce, winning 92-74 in Athens, where Nigel Hayes-Davis and Mathias Lessort played key roles with 19 points each. They followed that up with another dominant performance in Belgrade, beating Partizan 72-55.
Their sensational EuroLeague run came to an end last week with a surprising 91-81 home loss against Hapoel Tel Aviv. They allowed too many open shots and were outrebounded 27-34. Francisco still had a great game, scoring 22 points on 8/13 FG shooting.
Baskonia Searching for a Turnaround
Baskonia are off to a terrible start in the EuroLeague, securing just one victory in six rounds. They sacked Paolo Galbiati last week despite winning three ACB Liga matches in a row, appointing Velimir Perasovic as his successor.
Some improvements were evident in Perasovic's debut last week against Virtus Bologna in Italy. After a slow start, the Basque side pushed for a comeback but couldn't complete it, losing 86-78 after shooting just 37% from the field.
Their problems continued in ACB Liga last weekend, as they suffered their first defeat of the fourth round against Tenerife, losing 82-77. Matteo Spagnolo was the top performer with 15 points, six rebounds and one assist.

Verdict
Despite last week's loss to Hapoel Tel Aviv, Panathinaikos have shown the most of all EuroLeague teams this season, while Kostas Sloukas and Kendrick Nunn will also make their long-awaited comebacks on Thursday. Baskonia are one of the weakest squads in the elite division, so a home win with a -14.5 handicap is my top pick.
