Portugal vs Montenegro Live Stream & Tips – Visitors Underestimated in the World Cup 2027 Qualifiers

Portugal faces Montenegro without star Neemias Queta, significantly impacting their rebounding and scoring abilities. This gives Montenegro a golden opportunity; a loss could derail their journey to Qatar. Experts tip Montenegro for an away win, particularly with a +3.5 handicap. This matchup is a must-win for Montenegro, given the high stakes, and the absences in Portugal’s lineup could be decisive.

Match Preview

Portugal surprised Montenegro and won in Podgorica when they locked horns in the opening round. Can the Brave Falcons get a revenge win on Thursday?

Portugal Closing In on Second Phase Spot

Portugal are having a decent run in the FIBA World Cup 2027 qualifiers so far, probably being just one win away from clinching a spot in the second phase (currently sitting 2nd in Group B with a 2-2 record).

The start of the campaign was fantastic, claiming an upset 83-62 victory against favored Montenegro in Podgorica, then losing to big guns Greece 76-68 but bouncing back in the third round by beating Romania 99-82.

Portugal wasted a huge chance to seal a Top 3 placement in the reverse tie against Romania, losing to underdogs 101-96 due to disastrous defending. Interestingly, they had better shooting than the opposition (51% to 46%) but missed some key free throws in the final quarter.

Montenegro Looking to Stay in the Race

Montenegro had a lot of problems with injuries and absent players, so their current 2-2 record doesn’t come as much of a surprise.

After getting smashed by Portugal in the opening round, the Brave Falcons claimed back-to-back victories against Romania 80-75 and stunned Greece 67-65 in Athens, heavily carried by Zoran Nikolic, who scored 19 points.

They failed to replicate such an achievement a couple of days later at home, losing to Greece 79-65 with awful shooting percentages of 33%. Interestingly, Montenegro dominated the boards here with a 41-34 advantage in rebounds.

Verdict

Portugal will be without their best player, Neemias Queta, which should weaken their rebounding and scoring. I expect Montenegro to step up here since another defeat would make their path to Qatar almost impossible, so an away win in a +3.5 handicap is tipped.
