Sweden were tagged underdogs in Thursday's Scandinavian derby against Finland in Helsinki but claimed a super-important 86-81 victory to stay in playoff contention.

The Swedes were the more aggressive side here, attacking the rim frequently and resulting in 27 free throws, 21 of which they converted. Pelle Larsson was the top scorer here with 31 points, while Simon Birgander registered a double-double with 17 points and 10 rebounds.

They moved up to 4th place in Group L, having the same 4-3 record as 3rd-placed Hungary and 2nd-placed Finland.

France Closing in on Qualification

France are very close to qualifying for next year's World Championship in Qatar, winning six of their seven matches so far and topping the group.

They had zero problems on Thursday night in Paris, controlling the entire match from start to finish against Slovenia to take a 92-67 victory. Victor Wembanyama spent just 21 minutes on the floor but finished with 22 points and nine rebounds.

Les Bleus played two friendly matches against Serbia as preparations for these qualifiers, losing the first encounter 90-87 but bouncing back to win the second one 91-90.

France are very strong when it comes to physicality, with rock-solid defending allowing just 67 points to Slovenia on Thursday. Sweden are also known for their defensive discipline, so I am expecting less than 174 points on Sunday.
