Match Preview
Lega A Finals stay in Venice after the hosts kept the series alive with a huge offensive display in Game 3. Milano still need one more victory to lift the title, while Venezia will try to protect their perfect home playoff record and force a deciding match.
Venezia Looking to Level the Series
Venezia’s playoff run started with a dramatic five-game series against Tortona where they secured an 89-83 victory in the deciding clash after almost wasting a 2-0 lead.
They entered the semifinals as underdogs against Virtus Bologna but made an immediate statement with a 91-83 road victory. Venezia carried that momentum through the series and eliminated one of the title favorites in four games. The deciding clash ended 90-83 on home court, with RJ Cole delivering a brilliant 30-point performance.
After losing the opening two games of the finals against Milano 100-80 and 92-79, Venezia responded with a fantastic attacking display in Game 3 and claimed a 109-97 victory. Their ball movement and shot selection were excellent throughout the contest, while Jordan Parks was named man of the match with 22 points.
Milano Struggled Defensively in Game 3
Milano produced an outstanding offensive display in the series opener, winning 100-80 with Ousmane Diop leading the scoring with 18 points, while Game 2 ended 92-79 as Armoni Brooks topped the charts with 19 points.
They couldn’t stop Venezia from creating open looks and converting a majority of their perimeter attempts in Game 3 though, which resulted in a 109-97 defeat on Tuesday. Brooks was the leading scorer once again with 22 points, while Leandro Bolmaro added 20.
Earlier in the playoffs, Milano swept Reggiana 2-0 before eliminating higher-seeded Brescia 3-1 in the semifinals, with Brooks playing a huge role and scoring 54 points across that series.
Verdict
Venezia have won every single home game in the Lega A playoffs this season and looked much sharper offensively in Game 3. Milano showed plenty of defensive weaknesses, so a home win looks like a value bet.
