Rolando Romero Seeking 3rd Consecutive Victory

Rolando Romero is the defending WBA welterweight champion with a professional record of 17-2 (13 KOs).

Romero made his professional debut in December 2016 and quickly climbed the lightweight ladder to win the interim WBA championship in August 2020, beating Jackson Martinez on points.

The 30-year-old American followed that up with a seventh round knockout of Avery Sparrow in early 2021, and backed that up six months later when he stopped Anthony Yigit in the seventh round.

2022 brought his first professional defeat though, as he was knocked out by Gervonta Davis in the sixth round.

Romero did not fight for another 12 months, but he made up for lost time when he returned to action in May 2023, knocking out Ismael Barroso in the ninth round to become WBA super-lightweight world champion.

‘Rolly’ was ‘one and done’ as a champion though, as his first title defence ended in an eighth-round knockout loss to Isaac Cruz in March 2024.

He bounced back from that later that year, out-pointing Manuel Jaimes over 10 rounds, and then in his only outing of 2025 he became a world champion for the second time.

Romero beat Ryan Garcia via unanimous decision to win the vacant WBA (regular) welterweight title, and was later upgraded to full champion status after Jeron Ennis vacated.

Teofimo Lopez Aims To Bounce Back From World Title Loss

Teofimo Lopez is a former lightweight and welterweight world champion with a career record of 22-3 (13 KOs).

Lopez entered the professional ranks in November 2016 and began his career with 14 consecutive wins to earn himself a first world title fight in December 2019.

He took his big chance in emphatic fashion, knocking out Richard Commey in the second round to claim the IBF lightweight crown.

The 29-year-old New Yorker then became a unified lightweight champion in October 2020, as he out-pointed Vasyl Lomachenko over 12 rounds to add the WBA (Super), WBO and Ring Magazine titles.

Lopez lost those belts the following year though, as he dropped a split decision to George Kambosos Jr for the first defeat of his career.

He rebounded strongly though, following up a seventh-round knockout of Pedro Campa with a split decision victory over Sandor Martin to earn a shot at the WBO and Ring Magazine welterweight titles.

‘The Takeover’ then became a two-weight world champion in June 2023 as he dethroned Josh Taylor for those world titles.

Lopez defended those championships twice in 2024, out-pointing both Jamaine Ortiz and Steve Claggett, and then enjoyed a successful defence in May 2025 as he beat Arnold Barboza Jr via decision.

His reigned ended in January of this year though, as he was beaten on points by Shakur Stevenson.

Verdict

Teofimo Lopez is coming off the back of a loss, but there is no shame in losing to a fighter like Shakur Stevenson.

He remains one of the premier fighters in the welterweight division, and we expect him to produce a smart, calculated fight to leave with the WBA title belt.
