Despite going 2-0, however, G2 Esports did not perform as well as expected. They dropped 11 rounds against M80 (13-11) and one map against BIG. While G2 dominated the other two maps – with 13-5 on Cache and 13-1 on Inferno, BIG outclassed them on Ancient with 16-13.

Astralis Are Warming Up
Astralis qualified for the Esports World Cup playoffs via Group B lower bracket. They had a solid start in the upper bracket, beating MIBR 13-6, but lost a relatively close game against the reigning Major champions, Team Falcons.
In the lower bracket, Astralis bested Ninjas in Pyjamas with 13-3 on Nuke, 10-13 on Inferno, and 13-7 on Cache. The Inferno map could’ve ended in Astralis’ favour, but they had a couple of slip-ups.
Even with that, it was a very solid display from the Danish squad, and just one more good performance in a streak of decent fixtures.
Individually, Staehr has been Astralis’ top player this event, with a 1.21 performance rating, ahead of ryu at 1.17.

G2 Esports are the better team on paper, having reached higher highs this season. But looking at the teams’ performances in France alone, there is not much to separate them.
G2 have been fairly underwhelming, whereas Astralis have continued to improve over the last few weeks and are trending in the right direction. This alone makes Astralis a solid pick even though they’ve been relatively inefficient in dealing with tier-1 teams.
