PGL Masters Bucharest 2026 Favourites
PGL Masters Bucharest welcomes 16 world-class Counter-Strike 2 teams, but even in that stacked field, there is a clear line between the serious title contenders and the rest.
Team Spirit head to Romania as the team to beat, having proven themselves as one of the most in-form teams in the scene.
They’ve been in great shape since before the Intel Extreme Masters Cologne Major, having now placed top-four in seven straight tournaments. Notably, Spirit have won the Esports World Cup and BLAST Open Fall, before settling for a fourth-place finish at the ESL Pro League Season 24 earlier this month.
The latter result is not too inspiring; however, even though Vitality won the ESL Pro League trophy, they have one major issue which prevents them from holding the tag of PGL Masters Bucharest main title contenders.
Team Vitality have endured a long stretch of underwhelming results over the last few months before finding momentum in September. Since then, they’ve placed top-four at BLAST Open Fall, and won both StarLadder StarSeries Fall and ESL Pro League S24.
The Bees will, however, head to Romania without their in-game leader, Dan "apEX" Madesclaire, which is a major blow for them and their chances of making a deep run.
MOUZ are not to be overlooked either. They’ve been relatively successful of late, winning BLAST Bounty Summer and finishing second in BLAST Open Fall and ESL Pro League S24.
The issue with MOUZ, however, is their lack of consistency, as they’ve also had to settle for a fifth-eighth place finish at the EWC and fifth-sixth at StarLadder StarSeries Fall.
As a team with enough quality to challenge anyone, MOUZ deserve respect. Yet they’re not consistent enough to deserve the tag of the top dogs.
Aurora Gaming have been ramping up and travelling to Romania as dangerous underdogs. They have secured three consecutive podium finishes in the last month, with a runner-up finish at StarLadder StarSeries and bronze medals from the ESL Pro League S24 and Thunderpick World Championship.
Over that stretch, Aurora Gaming have picked up some big scalps, beating Falcons, Spirit, FURIA, and Team Vitality. Inconsistency is an issue, but Aurora Gaming, on a good day, can beat anyone.
Legacy and FURIA have both had their moments over the last few months, but have not found consistent results in bigger events. The ceiling is there, yet much like Aurora Gaming, the two South American teams have to prove they can deliver day after day.
