Tyson Fury Confirms 2026 Boxing Comeback; Eyes Usyk Or Joshua
- Tyson Fury announces 2026 boxing return
- Potential fights with Oleksandr Usyk or Anthony Joshua
- Outcome of Usyk vs. Dubois will impact next steps
Former world heavyweight champion Tyson Fury has officially announced plans to return to the boxing ring in 2026, with a blockbuster trilogy fight against Oleksandr Usyk or a long-awaited showdown with Anthony Joshua on the table.
The announcement came via Saudi Arabia’s entertainment chief, Turki Alalshikh, who revealed that Fury has “given his word” to compete during the next Riyadh Season — the Kingdom’s flagship sporting and entertainment festival.
“I spoke with Tyson Fury, and I have his word,” Alalshikh said during a press event in Riyadh. “He will return in 2026. The people want it, and we will deliver.”
Fury, 36, last fought in January 2025 when he suffered a second consecutive defeat to Usyk.
Though many believed Fury had retired for good, the self-styled “Gypsy King” has since teased fans with training footage and cryptic messages hinting at a comeback.
Eyes on Redemption or Rivalry
According to insiders, Fury is seeking either a third bout with Usyk to settle their rivalry once and for all — ideally in front of a home crowd at Wembley Stadium — or an all-British clash with Anthony Joshua, a fight years in the making.
“That’s the one that gets everyone going,” said Fury’s manager, Spencer Brown. “He’s not done. He’s just been bored — but now he wants to remind the world who he is.”
Both options offer major appeal. A trilogy with Usyk would give Fury a chance to avenge back-to-back losses, while a Wembley showdown with Joshua could draw over 100,000 fans and break UK boxing records.
Waiting on Usyk vs Dubois
The path forward will likely become clearer after Usyk defends his titles against Daniel Dubois on July 19.
Oleksandr Usyk vs Daniel Dubois 2 is taking place at Wembley Stadium, and if the Ukrainian becomes undisputed champion for the second time, promoters could immediately begin discussions for Fury–Usyk III.
However, should Dubois pull off an upset, the focus may shift to other big-name opponents.
Despite his prior retirement, Fury has resumed training with long-time coach SugarHill Steward and appears to be in fighting shape.
Promoter Bob Arum has expressed skepticism, citing Fury’s wealth and health concerns, but others close to the boxer insist the fire is still there.
“He’s not coming back for the money,” said a source familiar with Fury’s camp. “He’s coming back for legacy.”
Looking Ahead to 2026
While the exact date and location are still unconfirmed, Saudi Arabia and the UK are the leading contenders to host Fury’s return bout.
Alalshikh has hinted that details will be revealed during the next Riyadh Season press cycle.
For now, boxing fans can look forward to a 2026 filled with potential drama, legacy-defining matchups, and the return of one of the sport’s most colourful and charismatic champions.
