Dundee are backed to extend their winning streak in the League Cup as they face Annan Athletic, a team struggling after a heavy defeat to Ross County. Historically, Dundee have dominated meetings between the sides and their recent form points to another victory, with high-scoring outcomes likely. The key recommendation is Dundee to win with over 2.5 goals in the match, given both teams' attacking trends and Annan's defensive vulnerabilities. Team news suggests changes for Annan, while Dundee face no injury issues and remain calm over summer transfer dealings.

Annan Athletic vs Dundee Predictions

Premiership visitors Dundee will be confident of making it two League Cup wins from two when they take on lower-league opponents Annan on Tuesday.

Dundee to win and over 2.5 goals is my preferred pick at Galabank.

Dundee Backed at Galabank

  • Annan lost 4 of their last 6 matches (competitive fixtures)
  • Annan have seen over 2.5 goals in 4 of their last 6 matches
  • Dundee won 4 of their last 5 matches (competitive fixtures)
  • Dundee have seen over 2.5 goals in 6 of their last 8 matches

Dundee Hold H2H Edge

Annan Athletic and Dundee have met twice since 2009. Dundee won both previous encounters, including a 3-1 victory in this competition two years ago.

Annan Hit by Ross County

Annan Athletic return to Galabank after a tough start to their League Cup campaign.

Wullie Gibson's side slipped to a 4-1 home defeat against League One visitors Ross County last weekend. Aidan Smith bagged a late consolation for the Galabankies.

The League Two side struggled to deal with the attacking quality of a County side recently relegated from the Scottish Championship.

Saturday's defeat leaves Annan bottom of Group D after the opening round of fixtures.

Out of form since the end of last season, Annan have failed to win five of their last six competitive matches. Gibson's men did pick up a pre-season win against Gretna before their heavy home reversal against the Staggies.

Dundee Edge Airdrie Thriller

Dundee make the trip to Galabank after an entertaining 4-2 win against Airdrie in their League Cup opener last weekend.

Steven Pressley's side trailed 2-1 at half-time, but second-half goals from Ethan Hamilton, Joe Bevan and Ashley Hay secured a fine comeback victory at Dens Park.

The Dark Blues showed plenty of attacking quality in their first competitive fixture of the new season.

A strong run of form at the end of last season saw Dundee claim victories in three of their last four Premiership fixtures. Pre-season form has been less impressive, with just one win from four friendly games this summer.

Frequently involved in high-scoring contests, an average of 3.45 goals per game were scored in the Dark Blues' last 11 competitive matches.

Annan Athletic vs Dundee Team News

Annan Athletic: (4-2-3-1) Sam Murdoch; Tommy Muir, Aaron Muirhead, Ryan Muir, Max Kilsby; Paul McGowan, Josh Dixon; Ji Stevenson, Aidan Smith, Connor Cooper; Tommy Goss

Annan boss Gibson could make changes to his first XI after the heavy Ross County reversal last weekend.

Aidan Smith is expected to feature after scoring from the bench in that defeat, while summer arrivals Sam Murdoch, Aaron Muirhead and Connor Cooper are among those in contention to start.

Dundee: (4-4-1-1) Harry Sharp; Drey Wright, Ryan Astley, Aaron Donnelly, Idris Odutayo; Charlie Reilly, Ryan Finnigan, Ethan Hamilton, Finlay Robertson; Ashley Hay; Simon Murray

Dundee boss Pressley could retain much of the side that beat Airdrie in their League Cup opener. Simon Murray is likely to earn a recall after a second-half substitute appearance on Saturday.

The Dark Blues have no reported injury issues.

Speaking to the BBC last week, Pressley insisted he remains calm about the club's transfer business this summer.

"There’s a lot of hard work ahead of us, but we're very calm about the situation," Pressley said.

"We were in a very similar situation last season, and we managed to bring in some really good players in the latter stages of the window.

"Sometimes you need to know where you are in the food chain, and as a result of that, show a little bit more patience,"

"If you adopt that strategy, then often you can get the players that you really want."

Zan Besir, Owen Bevan, Ryan Finnigan and Idris Odutayo have already been added to the squad.

Verdict

Dundee should have far too much in the forward areas for an Annan side that struggled in last weekend's defeat against Ross County.

I have my stake on Dundee to win with over 2.5 match goals.
