Fenerbahce won all three test games in July against respectable opposition, so their chances of building an advantage in the first leg are very high. Gornik Zabrze have decent scoring potential, so a home win & BTTS is a value bet.

Key Stats

Fenerbahce have won 5 of their last 6 matches (including pre-season).
Gornik Zabrze have seen BTTS in their last 2 matches.

No Previous Meetings

This is going to be the first head to head clash between Fenerbahce and Gornik Zabrze.

Fenerbahce Under New Leadership

The previous season was quite disappointing for Fenerbahce, failing to contest Galatasaray in the Turkish Super Lig title race (finished second) while also dropping out from the national cup in the quarterfinals to Konyaspor.

Domenico Tedesco is no longer leading the team, Ismail Kartal getting appointed as the new head manager in June.

Fenerbahce looked great in their recent pre-season friendlies, claiming three consecutive victories against Admira 5-0, Pogon Szczecin 4-0 and most recently LASK Linz 2-1.

Gornik Coming off an Amazing Season

Gornik Zabrze had a great run in the Polish Ekstraklasa last season, finishing in second place four points behind the champions Lech Poznan.

They also won the Polish Cup by defeating Rakow 2-0 in the grand finals which ended a massive 38-year trophy drought for the club.

Their season premiere was on Thursday in the Polish Super Cup. Gornik gained an early lead against Lech Poznan through Maksym Khlan, but ultimately lost the encounter 3-1.

Team News & Predicted Lineups

Fenerbahce (4-2-3-1) Mert Gunok; Mert Muldur, Milan Skriniar, Jayden Oosterwolde, Levent Mercan; Matteo Guendouzi, Fred; Irfan Can Kahveci, Marco Asensio, Kerem Akturkoglu; Talisca

N'Golo Kant just returned from the World Cup 2026 action with France and will need some time to regain fitness.

Gornik Zabrze (4-3-3) Philipp Schulze; Rafal Janicki, Michal Sacek, Josema, Erik Janza; Bastien Donio, Lukas Sadilek, Kacper Urbanski; Taofeek Ismaheel, Emil Prekop, Maksym Khlan

Jaroslaw Kubicki is out with an arm injury, while Tomasz Loska is serving a red card suspension.

Verdict

Fenerbahce v Gornik Zabrze

I expect Fenerbahce to justify role of favorites here and win their first official match under Ismail Kartal, but not with a clean sheet.
