Kuching City host Gangwon FC in AFC Champions League Two Group H, with the main tip being Kuching City to cover the +1.5 Asian handicap. Gangwon have struggled for victories, winning only three of their last 15 matches and failing to win nine of their last eleven. The previous meeting ended 1-0 to Gangwon, and under 2.5 goals has landed in seven of Gangwon’s last nine games. Kuching City are still searching for their first group win but have consistently covered the handicap, making them a resilient opponent.

Kuching City vs Gangwon FC Predictions

Kuching City host Gangwon FC in Thursday's AFC Champions League Two Group H clash at Stadium Taha Ariffin.

Gangwon claimed a narrow 1-0 victory in last week's reverse fixture, and another tight encounter is likely on Wednesday.

I'm backing Kuching City in the Asian handicap market, while I also expect under 2.5 goals scored in Malaysia.

Another Tight Contest Expected in Kuching

  • Kuching City covered a +1.5 handicap in their last 14 matches
  • Gangwon FC have seen under 2.5 goals in 7 of their last 9 matches
  • Gangwon FC failed to win 9 of their last 11 matches

Gangwon Edge First Meeting

Kuching City and Gangwon FC will meet for the second time on Thursday. Gangwon claimed a narrow 1-0 win in last week's first-ever encounter in South Korea.

Kuching City Searching for First Group Win

Kuching City return to AFC Champions League Two action after a 1-0 defeat against Gangwon last week.

Choe Byeong-chan's first-half goal proved the difference at Gangneung Stadium.

Kuching were second best for much of the contest, with Gangwon registering nearly twice as many shots (15-8) and dominating possession (63-37%).

The hosts also recorded a higher xG total (0.84-0.31), although Kuching created the game's only big chance.

Aidil Sharin's men have now suffered one-goal defeats in three successive away fixtures across three competitions in the past fortnight.

The Cats had lost just one of 11 previous fixtures before their recent difficult spell.

Competing in the AFC Two for the first time in their history, Kuching are still searching for their first win in Group H.

The Malaysians began their continental campaign with a 2-1 defeat at Phnom Penh Crown before a 1-1 draw at home to Kitchee.

Kuching sit bottom of Group H with just one point from their first three fixtures.

Gangwon Slip-Up at Ulsan

Gangwon FC return to continental action following a 2-1 K League 1 defeat at Ulsan HD on Sunday.

The visitors took the lead through a Hwang Byeong-geun own goal before substitute Erick Farias struck twice in the second half to secure a comeback win for the home side.

Final match statistics reflected a competitive contest, with Gangwon enjoying 54% possession and both sides registering 11 shots.

Ulsan created the better chances, though, with the xG figures (1.46-0.67) suggesting the hosts deserved their narrow victory.

The KL1 side have struggled to find much form in recent months. Gangwon won only one of their last five matches, and just three of 15 since August.

Currently second in Group H of the AFC Two, the Koreans kicked off their campaign with a 0-0 draw at Kitchee before slipping to a 2-1 home defeat against Phnom Penh Crown.

Last week's narrow home win against Kuching lifted Gangwon to second in Group H, with four points collected from three matches.

Kuching City vs Gangwon FC Team News

Kuching City: (4-4-2) Haziq Nadzli; Ariff Farhan Isa, James Okwuosa, Yuki Tanigawa, Declan Lambert; Kaishu Yamazaki, Ryan Lambert, Petrus Shitembi, Ramadhan Saifullah; Dylan Wenzel-Halls, Gabriel Nistelrooy.

Kuching City head coach Aidil Sharin Sahak faces a selection headache ahead of Thursday's AFC Champions League Two encounter.

Ajdin Mujagic, Ronald Ngah Wanja, Gabriel Peres, Jimmy Raymond and Ahmad Israiwah have all been ruled out.

Ronald Ngah and Gabriel Peres remain long-term absentees.

Gangwon FC: (4-4-2) Park Cheong-hyo; Kang Joon-hyuck, Marko Tuci, Shin Min-ha, Karim Mammar; Lee Seung-won, Lee You-hyeon, Seo Min-woo, Kim Dae-won; Choe Byeong-chan, Kim Gun-hee.

Head coach Chung Kyung-ho could rotate his side following Sunday's 2-1 league defeat at Ulsan HD.

Hong Chul, Lee Seung-won and Lee Eun-ho are among those in contention to earn recalls after substitute appearances last weekend.

The visitors have no reported injury issues.

Verdict

Gangwon have struggled for wins in recent months and could find it difficult to overcome a resilient Kuching side.

I fancy the hosts to cover the +1.5 Asian handicap in what should be a low-scoring AFC Champions League Two contest.
