Porto vs Napoli Predictions & Betting Tips - Value on Napoli in the Champions League

Napoli are tipped to avoid defeat when they visit Porto in the Champions League, with the visitors' recent scoring form—11 goals in their last four matches—providing confidence. Porto have been impressive domestically but have lost all three of their Champions League fixtures this season, casting doubt on their ability to transfer league form to Europe. The recommendation is for Napoli to win or secure a draw, given their attacking strength and Porto's struggles on the continental stage.

  • Porto have lost all 3 Champions League matches
  • Napoli have scored 11 goals in their last 4 games
  • I am siding with the visitors in northern Portugal

Porto are the favourites here but have lost their last four matches in Europe. Napoli have had some excuses on the road in recent weeks but have more than enough talent to score in Portugal.

Stats

  • Porto have lost their last 4 matches (UEFA competitions).
  • Napoli have lost 6 of their last 7 away matches (Champions League).
  • Napoli have scored 3+ goals in 3 of their last 4 matches.

HTH

These club last met in the 2013/14 Europa League Round of 16, Porto winning 1-0 at home before a 2-2 draw in Italy.

Porto 0-3 in the Champions League

Porto have won all 10 matches in Liga Portugal, scoring 25 goals with four conceded. They thrashed Estoril 4-0 on Saturday with Gabri Veiga registering a goal and two assists.

Francesco Farioli’s side haven’t been as convincing in the Champions League, losing all three games. A 2-0 defeat to Manchester City was followed by a 3-2 loss at Real Betis and 1-0 defeat against PSV.

Napoli Inconsistent

Napoli have been well below their best this season and currently sit eighth in Serie A. They are coming off a 2-0 defeat at Juventus where they had only one shot on target.

Massimiliano Allegri’s side lost their opening two Champions League matches, 1-0 against Arsenal and 3-1 at Villarreal. They beat Bodo/Glimt 4-3 with Scott McTominay scoring two goals.

The Campania club have proven they are capable of finding the net, scoring 11 goals in four games.

Predicted Lineups & Team News

Porto (4-3-3) Diogo Costa; Alberto Costa, Jan Bednarek, Jakub Kiwior, Zaidu Sanusi; Victor Froholdt, Pablo Rosario, Gabri Veiga; Pepê, Samu Aghehowa, Borja Sainz

Chris Smalling picked up an injury in the League Cup and William Gomes is close to returning from an ankle injury. Oskar Pietuszewski could feature after a minor muscle injury.

Souza replaced Zaidu Sanusi at half-time against Estoril and could get a start here.

Samu Aghehowa might begin on the bench as he continues to gain full fitness. André Silva and Santiago Giménez are the other options up front.

Napoli (4-3-3) Alex Meret; Giovanni Di Lorenzo, Amir Rrahmani, Rafa Marin, Mathias Olivera; Kevin De Bruyne, Billy Gilmour, Scott McTominay; Matteo Politano, Rasmus Hojlund, Noa Lang

Centre-backs Benoit Badiashile and Alessandro Buongiorno are out alongside full-back Costantino Favasuli.

Leonardo Spinazzola is a chance to return at left-back. Stanislav Lobotka is expected back in the coming weeks alongside Brazilian wingers Alisson Santos and David Neres.

Verdict

I am not willing to back Porto who have proven that their domestic form means little in the Champions League. Napoli have the capability to win the midfield battle and steal all three points in Portugal.
