In the Champions League fixture between AEK Athens and Real Madrid, the tip is for Real Madrid to win with under four goals in the match. This recommendation is based on AEK Athens' recent form, as they have scored just one goal while losing to both PAOK and Panathinaikos in the past week. The selection reflects Real Madrid's European pedigree and AEK's current attacking difficulties, suggesting a controlled encounter with limited scoring opportunities.

Real Madrid look unstoppable right now, having won all six games since the international break. AEK Athens are in awful form, and I expect them to focus heavily on defending. An away win & under 3.5 goals is my top pick.

Key Stats

  • AEK Athens have kept a clean sheet in 6 of their last 7 home matches.
  • AEK Athens have lost 4 of their last 5 matches.
  • Real Madrid have won their last 6 matches.
  • Real Madrid have seen under 3.5 goals in their last 2 matches.

First Head to Head Since 2002

These sides locked horns four times so far, claiming one victory each, two meetings ending without a winner.

AEK Going Through a Rough Period

AEK Athens had a great start to the Champions League main phase, defeating LASK Linz 1-0 in front of the home crowd with Razvan Marin scoring the only goal in the first half.

Marko Nikolic's side then got nothing from their next two games, registering back to back defeats to Shakhtar Donetsk 3-1 on a neutral ground in London, and against Manchester City 5-1 at Etihad.

The Double-Headed Eagles also struggled in their domestic clashes, losing their last two appearances against PAOK 3-1 in the Greek Cup and Panathinaikos 2-0 in the Super League 1.

Red-Hot Los Blancos

Real Madrid defeated Inter Milan 2-1 in their UCL opening stage where both sides missed a lot of chances, then pulled a miraculous comeback in Italy, beating Roma 4-3 after scoring three goals in the last ten minutes.

Los Blancos made it three in a row two weeks ago at Santiago Bernabeu, taking down RB Leipzig 4-1 with Bernardo Silva, Arda Guler, Kylian Mbappe and Yan Diomande finding the net.

Jose Mourinho's side is also looking very strong in La Liga, winning all four appearances in October against Villarreal 1-0, Sevilla 4-1, Barcelona 2-1 and most recently Racing Santander 3-0.

Team News & Predicted Lineups

AEK Athens (4-4-2) Alberto Brignoli; Lazaros Rota, Harold Moukoudi, Filipe Relvas, Stavros Pilios; Lovro Majer, Kervin Arriaga, Razvan Marin, Joao Mario; Luka Jovic, Barnabas Varga

Goalkeeper Thomas Strakosha stays sidelined due to a hand injury, while Joao Mario and Lazaros Rota face late fitness assessments following recent illnesses.

Real Madrid (4-2-3-1) Thibaut Courtois; Denzel Dumfries, Antonio Rudiger, Dean Huijsen, Alvaro Carreras; Aurelien Tchouameni, Arda Guler; Yan Diomande, Jude Bellingham, Vinicius Junior; Kylian Mbappe

Rodrygo and Raul Asencio are the only injury concerns for Jose Mourinho, while he can count on Vinicius Junior who missed the last two La Liga games due to a suspension.

Verdict

AEK Athens faced Greek big guns PAOK and Panathinaikos in the last seven days, scoring just one goal while losing both encounters. I am backing Real Madrid to claim another UCL win, with the match to finish with fewer than four goals.
