FC Thun host Hearts at Stockhorn Arena in the UEFA Conference League, with both teams tipped to score and over 2.5 goals also recommended. Thun have seen both teams score and over 2.5 goals in six of their last eight matches, while Hearts have conceded at least two goals in four of their last five. Both sides have struggled defensively and are seeking their first Conference League win, with Hearts further hampered by a lengthy injury list. An open, high-scoring contest is expected.

FC Thun vs Hearts Predictions

FC Thun welcome Hearts to Stockhorn Arena in Thursday's UEFA Conference League league-phase fixture.

Goals look like an inevitable outcome in a match between two attack-minded sides.

I'm backing BTTS, while we should see three goals or more in Switzerland.

Goals Expected in Switzerland

  • FC Thun have seen BTTS and over 2.5 goals in 6 of their last 8 matches (competitive fixtures)
  • FC Thun conceded 2+ goals in 4 of their last 6 matches
  • Hearts have seen BTTS in 6 of their last 9 matches
  • Hearts conceded 2+ goals in 4 of their last 5 matches

FC Thun and Hearts Set For First Encounter

FC Thun and Hearts will meet for the first time in Thursday's Conference League contest.

Thun Claim Wild Comeback Win

FC Thun return to Conference League action after a dramatic 5-4 victory at Lausanne-Sport in the Swiss Super League last weekend.

Furkan Dursun gave Thun an early lead, but the visitors found themselves 4-1 down shortly after the hour.

Brighton Labeau and Riccardo Braschi reduced the arrears before a late own goal brought the visitors level. Brighton Labeau's stoppage-time winner secured an incredible comeback win for Die Oberlander.

Gian Luca Privitelli's side just about deserved their win in a remarkable contest. Thun registered 18 shots compared to Lausanne's 11 and a higher xG total (2.96-2.04).

Sunday's win brought Thun's five-match winless run to an end.

Still searching for their first Conference League point, the Swiss side opened their European campaign with a 1-0 defeat at Twente before losing by the same scoreline against Hajduk Split.

Those low-scoring contests have been the exception rather than the rule, with Thun's last ten matches averaging 4.1 goals per game.

Hearts Look to Bounce Back from Derby Defeat

Hearts return to continental action following a painful 2-1 Scottish League Cup semi-final defeat against Edinburgh rivals Hibernian at Hampden Park.

Claudio Braga gave the Jambos a fourth-minute lead before goals from Martin Boyle and Jamie McGrath completed the turnaround before half-time.

Wouter Vrancken's side could have few complaints about the final outcome. Hearts registered 12 shots compared to Hibernian's 16, while the xG figures (1.01-2.89) reflected the Hibees' superiority.

The Jambos have endured a difficult run of results in recent weeks, losing three and winning just one of their last six matches. A humiliating 7-1 defeat at Celtic marked the low point of Vrancken's early months in charge at Tynecastle.

Hearts have also struggled to get going in the Conference League. The Edinburgh side began their campaign with a 1-1 home draw against Nordsjaelland before a 2-0 defeat at Besiktas on matchday two.

Like the hosts, the Jambos have been involved in several high-scoring contests this season. Fifteen of their last 20 matches finished with at least three goals scored.

FC Thun vs Hearts Team News

FC Thun: (4-4-2) Niklas Steffen; Fabio Fehr, Jan Bamert, Marco Burki, Olivier Mambwa; Nils Reichmuth, Nassim Zoukit, Mattias Kait, Nico Maier; Furkan Dursun, Brighton Labeau.

Head coach Privitelli is unlikely to make too many changes following Sunday's dramatic 5-4 victory at Lausanne.

Patrik Kristal is suspended, while Genis Montolio, Fabio Saiz, Mats Seiler and Louis Passavant remain sidelined with various injury issues.

Riccardo Braschi is in contention to earn a recall after scoring from the bench against Lausanne.

Brighton Labeau should retain his place in attack after scoring twice, including the stoppage-time winner last weekend.

Hearts: (4-2-3-1) Beau Reus; Jordi Altena, Malachi Fagan-Walcott, Jamie McCart, Stephen Kingsley; Laurent Mendy, Gus Stevenson; Sabah Kerjota, Sabri Guendouz, Josh McPake; Claudio Braga.

Hearts head coach Wouter Vrancken has some selection issues to deal with after their Scottish League Cup semi-final defeat against Hibernian.

Calvin Miller (knee) and Tomas Magnusson (concussion) are the latest absentees, joining Blair Spittal, Oisin McEntee, Harry Milne, Christian Borchgrevink, Craig Halkett, Tom Renaud, Ageu and Rogers Mato on the sidelines.

Yan Dhanda and Aron Benjaminsen are not registered for the competition, leaving Vrancken desperately short of midfield options.

Teenager Gus Stevenson could earn a rare start, while James Wilson and Sabri Guendouz are among those in contention to feature.

Claudio Braga is expected to lead the attack after scoring against Hibernian.

Speaking after Sunday's defeat against Hibernian, Vrancken expressed his frustration at Hearts' mounting injury problems.

"We've got 10 guys who are injured; I've never seen that in my whole career. If you put them together, you have a pretty good team that could play in the Premiership.

"It's a missed opportunity, but you can't go back in time and try to do better because in cup games anything can happen to decide the game; for us, it was two bad injuries."

Verdict

Both teams have struggled defensively in recent weeks and will be determined to claim their first Conference League victories of the season.

Given those circumstances, an open contest looks likely, with goals expected at both ends.

I have my stake on BTTS, with over 2.5 goals also tipped at Stockhorn Arena.
