  • Brighton have lost to nil in their last 2 matches.
  • Brighton have had -1 XG in their last 2 games.

H2H - Reds on Top

Liverpool have a 24-8 advantage against Brighton, alongside 12 draws.

Liverpool Building Winning Momentum

Liverpool have shown signs of returning to top form recently after winning five of their previous eight in all competitions.

The Reds thumped Barnsley 4-1 at home in the FA Cup and beat Marseille 3-0 away. Arne Slot's side then won consecutive home games against Qarabag 6-0 and Newcastle 4-1 before a 2-1 defeat to Man City.

The Merseysiders responded by ending Sunderland's unbeaten home run with a 1-0 win in the Premier League. Liverpool were on top with 2.53-0.63 XG and Virgil van Dijk headed in the winner on 61 minutes.

Fabian Hurzeler Under Pressure at Brighton

Fabian Hurzeler's role at Brighton is under scrutiny following a big drop off in recent form. The Seagulls have won just two games since the end of November, with one victory coming at Man United 2-1 in the FA Cup.

The south coast team lost six consecutive matches across December, including a 2-0 defeat at Liverpool. Brighton conceded once in each half and struggled to respond with just one shot on target.

Hurzeler's side are on a five-match winless streak and have scored just three goals during that period. The Seagulls have lost their last two matches, including a 1-0 home defeat against rivals Crystal Palace.

The Sussex outfit couldn't hit back and lost 1-0 at Aston Villa. Brighton lacked an attacking threat with just 0.5 XG and Jack Hinshlewood scored a late own goal.

Predicted Starting Lineups & Team News

Liverpool (4-2-3-1): Giorgi Mamardashvili; Joe Gomez, Ibrahima Konate, Virgil van Dijk, Andy Robertson; Ryan Gravenberch, Dominik Szoboszlai; Mohamed Salah, Florian Wirtz, Cody Gakpo; Hugo Ekitike

Defensive trio Jeremie Frimpong, Conor Bradley and Giovanni Leoni are out with long-term injuries. Striker Alexander Isak is also sidelined with a broken leg.

Wataru Endo was stretchered off in Liverpool’s win at Sunderland. Arne Slot confirmed the midfielder would be out for the foreseeable future and said, "I assume he will be out for a long, long time. What is long, it is difficult to say at this moment."

Brighton (4-3-3): Bart Verbruggen; Joel Veltman, Jan Paul van Hecke, Lewis Dunk, Ferdi Kadioglu; Jack Hinshelwood, Carlos Baleba, Pascal Gross; Diego Gomez, Danny Welbeck, Karou Mitoma

Defender Adam Webster and striker Stefanos Tzimas are ruled out with knee injuries. Midfield pair Solly March and Yasin Ayari are also sidelined due to injury.

Jan Paul van Hecke came off early against Aston Villa. Fabian Hurzeler explained that this was a pre-planned decision, rather than an injury concern, and said, “We had to take him out after 60, 65. That was the maximum of his playing time, what he was capable of doing."

Verdict

Liverpool have clicked recently and look well balanced. Brighton are lacking any kind of cohesion and the Reds can seal an FA Cup win to nil at Anfield.
