It looks like Malmo recovered from a slow start, claiming a 1-0 win over Degerfors in Gaute Helstrup’s debut as the new head manager. I will back them to beat struggling Goteborg on Sunday as well.

Malmo are having a very poor start to the 2026 Allsvenskan campaign, grabbing just 16 points in 11 rounds which forced them to make some changes, replacing head manager Miguel Angel Ramirez with Gaute Helstrup. 

One of the worst runs in the club’s recent history was recorded in May, suffering four consecutive defeats against Mjallby 3-2, Hacken 3-2, Hammarby 4-1 and Vasteras 3-2, while they managed to end this negative streak with a 5-2 home win over Halmstad. 

Helstrup’s debut was earlier this month, Malmo taking three points against Degerfors 1-0 on the road, Erik Botheim scoring the only goal in the 52nd minute. It was a well-deserved win, having 1.76-0.47 xG, 62% possession and 15-7 shots. 

Visitors Sit Inside the Red Zone 


Goteborg are one of the biggest disappointments in Allsvenskan 2026 so far, securing just 10 points in 11 rounds and currently sit inside the relegation zone, mainly due to disastrous defending.   

In their most recent appearance, they were beaten in front of the home crowd by AIK Stockholm 2-1. Goteborg gained an early lead here, fired 19 shots and posted 1.24 xG but still lost. 

Speaking of their results on the road, they are balanced this season, recording two wins, two draws and two defeats with negative 10-16 goal difference.

Malmo will be without Anders Christiansen who is recovering from leg injury, while Pontus Jansson is out with a knee problem. 

Gabriel Ersoy (muscle injury), Arbnor Mucolli (knee injury) and Jonathan Rasheed (ankle problem) are sidelined for Goteborg.
