However, the scoreline flattered Victory against the Mariners before the break.

Arthur Diles' side were forced to come from behind, scoring all four goals in the second-half and only sealing the game with two stoppage time strikes on the counter.

Nishan Velupillay, Juan Mata, Nikos Vergos and Jason Davidson were all on target for Victory as they went ahead of Adelaide on goal difference.

Wellington Phoenix Go Back-to-Back

Phoenix head into this showdown with a 7-6-9 record for the season and still right in the finals hunt in eighth spot on the ladder.

I must admit I didn't see Phoenix contending for the top six a month ago, but they've reeled off back-to-back wins over fellow bottom half teams Perth and Brisbane to move to within one point of Macarthur in sixth.

After dispatching Glory 2-0 at home, Wellington went on the road and came from a goal down to topple the Roar 2-1.

Corban Piper scored from a set piece to equalise before Ifeanyi Eze fired home in the 88th minute for the winner and his ninth goal of the season.

Verdict

Victory are tipped for their fifth straight win over Phoenix in a high-scoring game, with Charles Nduka getting on the scoresheet.
