Motherwell vs Celtic Live Stream & Predictions - Back BTTS in Vital Premiership Clash

Motherwell host Celtic in their final home Premiership fixture, riding high after holding league leaders Hearts to a draw. Despite Celtic being dominant in head-to-head fixtures, Motherwell have shown their strength at Fir Park, boasting ten wins in 18 home matches this season. Celtic, buoyed by a big win against Rangers, have struggled to keep clean sheets and are missing key players through injury. The key recommendation for punters is to back both teams to score (BTTS), as both sides are in goal-scoring form and past meetings have featured plenty of goals.

Motherwell vs Celtic Predictions

Celtic will be desperate to claim victory, but seem unlikely to keep the door closed on a dangerous Motherwell side. BTTS is my best bet for what promises to be a fascinating Premiership contest.

Goals Expected at Fir Park

  • Motherwell have seen BTTS in 6 of their last 8 matches
  • Motherwell scored an average of 1.66 goals per game in their last 18 home matches (Premiership)
  • Celtic have seen BTTS in 8 of their last 11 matches against Motherwell
  • Celtic have seen BTTS in 5 of their last 6 matches

Celtic Dominant in Motherwell H2H

Motherwell and Celtic have met on 21 occasions since 2020. Celtic won 18 of those games, while Motherwell secured their only victory when they last hosted the Hoops six months ago.

Motherwell Hold Hearts

Motherwell face their final home Premiership fixture of the season after holding league leaders Hearts to a 1-1 draw at Fir Park on Saturday evening. Stephen Kingsley’s own goal gave the Well a first-half advantage before Lawrence Shankland secured a point for the league leaders.

Both sides had their moments in an evenly balanced second half. Motherwell conceded just six shots despite the Jambos’ push to claim all three points.

Jens Askou's side again showed their ability to test the best sides in the division. Motherwell have held Rangers to draws twice at Fir Park this season, while they scored a 2-0 win against Celtic when they hosted the Scottish champions last December.

The Steelmen have been particularly strong in home fixtures, with ten wins and only two defeats recorded in 18 Premiership games at Fir Park this season.

Askou's men remain fourth in the division, four points clear of fifth-placed Hibernian.

Celtic See-Off Gers Threat

Celtic make the trip to Fir Park with confidence raised from their well-deserved 3-1 win against Rangers on Sunday. Mikey Moore opened the scoring at Parkhead before goals from Yang and  Daizen Maeda (x2) secured a huge victory for the Scottish champions.

Maeda's spectacular overhead kick proved the highlight of a compelling contest at Parkhead.

Martin O'Neill's side proved clinical in front of goal, with their three strikes coming from a final xG of just 1.08.

The Bhoys have found their best form in the final weeks of the Scottish season. Celtic won each of their last five Premiership fixtures, and now sit just one point behind Hearts with two games still to play.

The Hoops struggled to keep clean sheets, though. O’Neill's men conceded at least one goal in all but two of their last 15 domestic fixtures.

Predicted Lineups and Team News

Motherwell (4-2-3-1) Calum Ward; Stephen O Donnell, Liam Gordon, Stephen Welsh, Emmanuel Longelo; Oscar Priestman, Elliot Watt; Tawanda Maswanhise, Callum Slattery, Ibrahim Said; Elijah Just

Head coach Askou has just one confirmed absentee this week. Zach Robinson is sidelined with an Achilles tendon injury.

The Danish boss praised his side after their hard-fought draw against Hearts.

"I think our performance in general was outstanding. I thought we took control of the game in the beginning. We drove the tempo, took initiative, and we were brave.

"We defended very bravely and strongly in the box besides their goal in the first half, so that was one of those moments we should have done better."

Celtic (4-2-3-1) Viljami Sinisalo; Alistair Johnston, Auston Trusty, Liam Scales, Kieran Tierney; Callum McGregor, Arne Engels; Luke McCowan, Benjamin Nygren, Hyun jun Yang; Daizen Maeda

Interim boss O'Neill is likely to name much of the the same side that started last weekend's win against Rangers.

The Hoops have several first-team players unavailable. Tomas Cvancara, Colby Donovan, Julian Araujo, Kasper Schmeichel, Callum Osmand, Adam Montgomery, Cameron Carter-Vickers and Jota remain unavailable with various injury issues.

O’Neill admits his side still have “two mountains to climb” despite the crucial win against Rangers.

“It was a big win for us, and I thought we were terrific in the second half, coming from behind against big rivals,” he told BBC Scotland.

“I couldn’t be more delighted with the team, and certain individuals were magnificent.

“The captain was magnificent, and Daizen (Maeda) has pulled it through again.”

Verdict

Motherwell cannot be underestimated, and they should at least bring up a BTTS pick this week. I have my stake on both teams to score in a fascinating Premiership fixture.
