Rangers vs Hibernian Live Stream & Predictions - Goals on the Cards in Premiership Fixture

Rangers host Hibernian in a Scottish Premiership encounter where both sides come off high-scoring recent matches. Rangers' title hopes are over following a defeat to Celtic, while Hibernian are boosted by a convincing win against Falkirk. Defensive weaknesses plague Rangers, conceding frequently in recent weeks, and Hibs' games have also produced plenty of goals. With little to challenge for, an open game is anticipated at Ibrox. The recommended bet is both teams to score (BTTS) and over 2.5 total goals.

Rangers vs Hibernian Predictions

With little left to play for, an open contest should see plenty of chances and goals at both ends. BTTS and over 2.5 goals is my preferred choice for Wednesday's Premiership tussle.

Goals Likely at Ibrox

  • Rangers have seen BTTS & over 2.5 goals in 9 of their last 10 matches (Premiership)
  • Rangers have seen an average of 3.16 goals per game in their last 18 home matches (Premiership)
  • Hibernian have seen BTTS & over 2.5 goals in their last 3 matches

Rangers Dominant in Hibernian H2H

Rangers and Hibernian have met on 25 occasions since 2020. Rangers won 18 of those fixtures while Hibernian claimed just two victories.

Rangers Title Dreams Die

Rangers return to Ibrox with their Premiership title dreams dashed after a 3-1 defeat at old rivals Celtic last Sunday. Mikey Moore gave the Gers the perfect start, but the Hoops fought back with Daizen Maeda bagging a brilliant brace to secure bragging rights for the Hoops.

Danny Rohl's side were again unable to maintain their performance over the 90 minutes. The Gers registered just five shots and an xG of 0.3 in a lacklustre second-half performance at Parkhead.

Rangers have now lost each of their last three Premiership fixtures, ending their hopes of a first league title since 2021. The Glasgow giants can no longer catch Celtic or Hearts, with seven and eight-point gaps to the Premiership pacesetters.

Defensive issues have been costly for the Gers. Rohl's boys conceded 13 goals in their five most recent fixtures, while they have kept just one clean sheet in their last 12 Premiership fixtures.

High-scoring outcomes have been frequent at Ibrox this season. An average of 3.16 goals per game were scored in 18 Premiership games since August.

Hibernian Thump Bairns

Hibernian arrive at Ibrox in high spirits after a convincing 3-1 win against Falkirk last weekend. Josh Campbell's early brace set the Hibees on their way to a well-deserved road victory.

David Gray's side showed their quality in the final third, with three goals coming from just ten shots and a final xG of 1.3. Falkirk struggled to stamp their authority on the contest, with just eight shots and an xG of 0.6

The Hibees had suffered three successive Premiership defeats before their much-needed win against the Bairns. Hibernian remain fifth in the division, five points ahead of Falkirk but four behind fourth-placed Motherwell.

Recent results have been high-scoring, with at least three goals scored in four of their last five matches. Each of their last three games also saw both teams get on the scoresheet.

Predicted Lineups and Team News

Rangers (4-3-3) Jack Butland; Dujon Sterling, Nasser Djiga, Emmanuel Fernandez, Tuur Rommens; Connor Barron, Mohamed Diomande, Tochi Chukwuani; Thelo Aasgaard, Youssef Chermiti, Mikey Moore

Rangers boss Rohl could make some changes to his selection this week. Dujon Sterling could come into the side while Oliver Antman is set to drop out after an ineffective display at Parkhead on Sunday.

The Gers have no new injury issues this week.

The nature of Rangers' defeat to rivals Celtic on Sunday has led to calls from sections of the support for Rohl to step down. However, the German insists there is “no question” he will remain in charge at Ibrox next season.

“Yes,” Rohl said when asked if he had been given assurances about his future.

“In the last 48 hours, there has been unbelievable support from the board. Everyone around me sees a lot of positive things, but we are also critical of ourselves. I think there's no question mark.”

Hibernian (3-4-1-2) Raphael Sallinger; Warren O Hora, Grant Hanley, Jack Iredale; Felix Passlack, Daniel Barlaser, Miguel Chaiwa, Jordan Obita; Josh Campbell; Owen Elding, Martin Boyle

Head coach Gray has a couple of selection issues this week. Rudi Molotnikov is ruled out, while Josh Mulligan is also a doubt with an ankle issue.

Gray was full of praise for his players after the win against Falkirk.

“I'm delighted for the players. I know there was a lot of pressure going into the game today. I thought our first-half performance was really, really good, especially on a difficult pitch and in a tough place to come and play.

“The players carried out the game plan really well, scored three very good goals, and it was a really professional performance in the second half.”

Verdict

Rangers' recent results suggest we can expect plenty of goalscoring opportunities at Ibrox. I have my stake on BTTS and over 2.5 goals.
