St Mirren vs Rangers Predictions & Tips - Gers Tipped for Away Victory

Rangers visit St Mirren in the Scottish Premiership, with the main tip being an away win, over 2.5 goals and both teams to score. Rangers are unbeaten in their last nine league matches and have dominated recent head-to-heads, winning 19 of 25 meetings since 2020. St Mirren have lost six of their last eight games but have scored in all six home Premiership fixtures this season. Both teams have a tendency to concede, supporting the prediction of a high-scoring match with goals at both ends.

St Mirren vs Rangers Predictions

Rangers make the short trip to Paisley for Saturday's Scottish Premiership contest.

The Buddies have lost four of their last six league matches, while Rangers are unbeaten in their last nine Premiership fixtures.

I fancy the Gers to claim a high-scoring win with both teams likely to score.

Rangers to Edge Entertaining Contest

  • St Mirren lost 6 of their last 8 matches
  • St Mirren have seen BTTS in 4 of their last 5 home matches
  • St Mirren have seen BTTS in 4 of their last 5 home matches against Rangers
  • Rangers won 9 of their last 11 matches
  • Rangers have seen BTTS in 3 of their last 4 away matches

Rangers Dominate Head-to-Head

St Mirren and Rangers have met on 25 occasions since 2020. Rangers won 19 games, while St Mirren picked up three victories. Three matches finished as draws.

Rangers won their last four contests, including a 5-1 League Cup victory in August and a 1-0 Premiership success at Ibrox in September.

St Mirren Stumble at Motherwell

St Mirren return to home comforts after a disappointing 1-0 defeat at Motherwell last Saturday.

Lukas Fadinger's 82nd-minute penalty condemned the Buddies to a fourth successive away defeat.

Craig McLeish's men struggled to create chances in a tight contest at Fir Park. The Buddies registered just five shots compared to Motherwell's 11, with only one effort on target.

Final xG totals  (0.20-2.31) underlined St Mirren's struggles in attack.

St Mirren have now lost six of their last eight games, but did secure positive results in their last two home fixtures. The Paisley side claimed a 2-1 win against Dundee before a 1-1 draw against Hibernian.

Stronger in home fixtures, St Mirren scored at least one goal in all six Premiership game at the Marbill Coaches Stadium this season.

Twelve games into the league ampaign, the Buddies sit eighth in the division, two points behind sixth-placed Dundee United.

Rangers Looking to Build on Cup Success

Rangers head to Paisley after a hard-fought 1-0 victory against Aberdeen in last weekend's Scottish League Cup semi-final at Hampden.

Ryan Naderi’s late goal proved the difference-maker as Derek McInnes' side secured a place in December's final.

The Gers were good value for their victory in Mount Florida. Rangers enjoyed 69% possession and outshot Aberdeen 29-9, while final xG totals (3.4-0.7) highlighted their dominance on Glasgow's south side.

After a slow start to the season, the Glasgow giants have enjoyed a strong run of form in the past couple of months. The Gers won nine of 11 unbeaten games since a painful Conference League defeat at Jablonec in August.

On the road, Rangers remain unbeaten in the Premiership, but have been held to 2-2 draws in their last two away fixtures at Dundee and Hearts.

McInnes' improving side sit second in the division, four points behind Celtic, but with a game in hand.

St Mirren vs Rangers Team News

St Mirren (3-4-2-1): Jack Chapman; Marcus Fraser, Alex Gogic, Henry Fieldson; Conor Ramsay, Ryan Carr, Finlay Taylor, Luke Thomas; Killian Phillips, Samuel Ramos; Jake Young.

Saints boss McLeish is expected to make changes following last Saturday's defeat at Motherwell.

Jake Young and Samuel Ramos are pushing for starting recalls after coming off the bench at Fir Park.

Malik Dijksteel is the hosts' only reported injury concern, while Paul Nsio is ineligible to face his parent club.

McLeish expressed his frustration with the Saints' lack of cutting edge when speaking to the BBC last weekend.

“We didn't do enough to test Motherwell; I don't think their goalkeeper had a save to make.

"We got into some promising areas but lacked a bit of quality in the final third. There were some really promising periods and got into promising areas but didn't manage to take advantage of them.

“Motherwell maybe feel a bit aggrieved that they didn't take more of their chances.”

Rangers: (4-2-3-1) Ivor Pandur; Dujon Sterling, Emmanuel Fernandez, Olisa Makhanya, James Penrice; Nicolas Raskin, Tuur Rommens; Min-su Kim, Ryan Naderi, Badredine Bouanani; Kevin Kelsy.

Rangers head coach Derek McInnes is expected to retain much of the same side that edged past Aberdeen in the League Cup semi-final.

Daniel Neil and Djeidi Gassama are among those pushing for starting recalls after substitute appearances at Hampden.

John Souttar, Youssef Chermiti and Lawrence Shankland remain sidelined with long-term injury issues.

Speaking to the BBC, McInnes expressed his satisfaction with last weekend's League Cup semi-final success.

"We arrived at the stadium, and the job was to get the team and the club into a cup final. By hook or by crook, our intention is to make sure we win the game.

We'd have liked to have won it with a far more polished performance, but we've seen semi-finals over the bit and you can easily see that sometimes even stronger Rangers teams have struggled to get the job done.”

Verdict

St Mirren are in poor form, but should raise their game against a Rangers side that rarely keeps clean sheets on the road.

I fancy the Gers to take all three points, although the hosts should bring up a BTTS pick.

I'm backing an away win with over 2.5 goals and both teams to score.
