Celtic vs Besiktas Predictions & Tips - Goals Tipped in Europa League Encounter

Celtic welcome Besiktas to Celtic Park in the UEFA Europa League, with both teams showing a strong record for high-scoring games. The main tip is both teams to score and over 2.5 goals, supported by Celtic seeing BTTS and over 2.5 in five of their last six matches and Besiktas in six of their last eight. Besiktas are also tipped to score two or more goals, having done so in ten of their last eleven outings. Both sides have struggled defensively, making another open, goal-filled match likely.

Celtic vs Besiktas Predictions

Celtic host Besiktas in Thursday's UEFA Europa League league-phase fixture at Celtic Park.

Both teams have been reliable choices in the goal markets in this competition, and I expect another high-scoring affair this week.

I'm backing BTTS and over 2.5 goals, with Besiktas also tipped to score two goals or more.

Goals Expected at Celtic Park

  • Celtic have seen BTTS and over 2.5 goals in 5 of their last 6 matches
  • Celtic conceded 2+ goals in their last 3 matches (Europa League)
  • Besiktas have seen BTTS and over 2.5 goals in 6 of their last 8 matches
  • Besiktas scored 2+ goals in 10 of their last 11 matches

Celtic and Besiktas Set For First Encounter

Celtic and Besiktas will meet for the first time on Thursday.

Celtic Looking to End European Losing Run

Celtic return to Europa League action after a miserable 2-0 Scottish Premiership defeat at Falkirk on Sunday.

Ethan Ross opened the scoring after just three minutes before Scott Tanser doubled the hosts' advantage before half-time.

Martin O'Neill's side dominated much of the contest, but were unable to launch a comeback at Falkirk Stadium.

The Hoops finished the contest with 70% possession and 24 shots compared to Falkirk's six. Celtic also enjoyed a commanding xG advantage (2.83-1.06), but were repeatedly denied by an inspired Scott Bain.

The out-of-form hosts have now lost six of their last ten matches, while they failed to win their two most recent fixtures. Last weekend's defeat at Falkirk came on the back of a 2-2 home draw against Dundee United.

Celtic's defensive frailties have been particularly evident in the Europa League this season. The Scots suffered a 2-1 home defeat against Celta Vigo following a 4-1 loss at Benfica and a 3-1 home reversal against Ferencvaros.

Usually reliable at Parkhead, Celtic failed to win four of their last five home matches. The Hoops have also struggled defensively, keeping just one clean sheet in their previous ten home fixtures.

Besiktas Unbeaten in Europa League

Besiktas return to Europa League business after a 2-2 draw at Kasimpasa in the Turkish Super Lig on Sunday.

Leandro Trossard put the visitors ahead in the 28th minute before Dusan Vlahovic doubled the advantage shortly after half-time.

Claudio Winck reduced the deficit on the hour before Marcus Rafferty struck late on to deny Besiktas all three points.

Vincenzo Italiano's side have now failed to win three of their last four matches, with a 2-0 win against Istanbul Basaksehir their only success in that period.

Like Celtic, Besiktas have been defensively vulnerable in recent weeks. The Turks conceded two goals or more in five of their last seven matches.

Despite their defensive issues, Italiano's men have made a strong start to their Europa League campaign, with goals flowing at both ends.

The Black Eagles began with an impressive 4-1 win against Marseille before claiming a 3-2 victory at Hoffenheim.

Besiktas then played out a 2-2 draw against Crystal Palace in their most recent European outing.

Celtic vs Besiktas Team News

Celtic: (4-2-3-1) Sam Johnstone; Colby Donovan, Cameron Carter-Vickers, Liam Scales, Kieran Tierney; Callum McGregor, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain; Haissem Hassan, Benjamin Nygren, Mika Baur; Camilo Duran.

Celtic head coach Martin O'Neill seems likely to make changes to his side after Sunday's dreadful defeat at Falkirk.

Alistair Johnston is sidelined with a hamstring injury, while Yang Hyun-jun and Kieran Tierney are also expected to miss out.

Portuguese winger Jota is not registered in Celtic's Europa League squad.

Kasper Hogh and James Forrest are among those pushing for starting recalls after appearing as substitutes against Falkirk.

Speaking to the BBC, veteran boss O’Neill expressed frustration with his side's shock defeat at Falkirk.

"Naturally disappointed. We lost the game. Tough old match for us. We conceded some poor goals from our viewpoint and naturally one so very, very early on in the game, but we created enough chances to have won three games.

"I do believe that we should tighten up defensively, and I think that we should be looking at some clean sheets, definitely.

"Today, I thought we played some really decent stuff as well too on the surface, and I thought we created a lot of chances; we just didn't take one of them."

Besiktas: (4-2-3-1) Alexander Nubel; Amir Murillo, Emmanuel Agbadou, Emirhan Topcu, Ridvan Yilmaz; Wilfred Ndidi, Salih Ozcan; Vaclav Cerny, Leandro Trossard, Junior Olaitan; Dusan Vlahovic.

Besiktas head coach Vincenzo Italiano has three confirmed absentees ahead of Thursday's trip to Glasgow.

Orkun Kokcu (foot) and Fabio Miretti (shoulder) are injured, while Umit Akdag is suspended following his red card against Crystal Palace.

Hyeon-gyu Oh and Ilhan Fakili are among those in contention to earn first-team recalls at Parkhead.

Verdict

Both teams are vulnerable defensively, but Besiktas are in much better form, particularly in this competition.

I have my stake on BTTS and over 2.5 goals, while I also fancy Besiktas to score two goals or more.
