These two sides locked horns in the Champions League qualifiers in July 2024. Slovan Bratislava won 6-1 on aggregate. 

Slovan Looking Strong Under Yaya Toure 


Slovan Bratislava failed to impress against underdog Iberia in the second UCL qualifying round, advancing 3-1 on aggregate. 

Their performances were much stronger against the Swedish champions Mjallby, winning 2-1 on the road with Manasse Kianga scoring the winner in the 94th minute. They finished the job at home last week with a 2-0 win. 

Yaya Toure’s side is also playing great in the Slovakian top flight, earning three convincing wins in three rounds against Banska Bystrica 5-0, Podbrezova 3-0 and most recently Ruzomberok 5-0. 

Celje Barely Made it to the Playoffs 


Both of Celje’s UEFA Champions League qualifying ties were quite dramatic, starting with games against Egnatia where they advanced on penalties (3-3 on the road, 2-2 at home). 

In the previous round, the Slovenian champions lost the first match to Ararat in Armenia 2-1, but then bounced back at home and claimed a 2-0 victory, scoring both goals inside the last ten minutes. 

Vitor Campelos’ side is having mixed results in the Slovenian top flight this season, claiming eight points in four rounds.
