Celtic vs Celta Vigo Predictions & Tips - BTTS and Goals Backed at Parkhead

Celtic and Celta Vigo will meet at Parkhead on Thursday in a Europa League match with both sides seeking their first points of the season. The teams have a history of high-scoring games, and recent statistics highlight their attacking styles and defensive vulnerabilities. Celtic come into the game off a dominant 7-1 win over Hearts, while Celta Vigo secured a 2-1 victory against Alaves. With both teams typically involved in matches with multiple goals, BTTS (Both Teams To Score) and over 2.5 goals is recommended as the best bet.

Celtic vs Celta Vigo Predictions

Celtic and Celta Vigo meet at Parkhead on Thursday, with both sides searching for their first Europa League points of the season.

Both teams like to get forward, and a high-scoring outcome should be expected in Glasgow.

BTTS & over 2.5 goals is my best bet at Parkhead.

Goals Expected in Glasgow

  • Celtic conceded 3.5 goals per game in their last 2 matches (Europa League)
  • Celtic scored an average of 2.2 goals per game this season
  • Celtic have seen BTTS & over 2.5 goals in their last 3 matches (European fixtures)
  • Celta Vigo have seen BTTS & over 2.5 goals in 7 of their last 10 matches (Europa League, league phase)

Celtic and Celta Set For First Meeting Since 2002

Celtic and Celta Vigo have not met in competitive action since their UEFA Cup third-round tie in 2002. Both sides won their home leg, with Celtic progressing on away goals after a 2-2 aggregate draw.

Celtic Hit Seven Against Hearts

Celtic return to European action after a remarkable 7-1 Premiership win against Hearts on Sunday.

Callum Osmand and Benjamin Nygren both scored twice, while Kieran Tierney, Camilo Duran and a Jamie McCart own goal completed the scoring. Laurent Mendy's first-half reply offered little consolation for the visitors.

The Hoops were at their blistering best in a contest where both sides could have scored more. Celtic were good value for their victory, though, creating nine big chances to Hearts’ one and registering a far higher xG total (4.22-1.56).

Sunday's emphatic victory moved O'Neill's side four points clear at the top of the Premiership. The champions have won eight of their nine league matches, scoring 23 goals and conceding just five.

Their European record this season has been far less impressive. Celtic lost 3-1 at home to Ferencvaros in September before suffering a 4-1 defeat at Benfica last Thursday, leaving them without a point after two games.

High-scoring outcomes have been a recurring theme for Celtic. Eleven of the Scots’ last 15 competitive fixtures finished with at least three goals scored, including a 5-1 extra-time defeat at LASK that ended their Champions League qualifying hopes.

Celta Edge Past Alaves

Celta Vigo travel to Scotland after a 2-1 home victory against Alaves in La Liga on Sunday.

Ferran Jutgla broke the deadlock early in the second half before Javi Rodriguez doubled the hosts' advantage. Hugo Novoa pulled one back late on, but Claudio Giraldez's side held on for their second league win of the season.

Celta goalkeeper Ionut Radu put in a superb display for Los Celestes. Alaves had 20 shots to the hosts' six, with Radu making eight saves to ensure the visitors left Estadio Abanca Balaídos empty-handed.

The Galicians are unbeaten in their last six league matches, although four of those games finished level.

Sunday's victory came on the back of a superb 5-0 win against Racing Santander and a goalless draw at Elche either side of the international break.

Like Celtic, Celta have lost their opening two Europa League fixtures. They fell to a shock 1-0 defeat at Omonia Nicosia in September before a 2-1 home defeat against Juventus last Thursday.

Randal Kolo Muani’s stoppage-time goal secured a narrow road win for the Italians.

Past results in this competition point towards a likely high-scoring contest this week. BTTS and over 2.5 goals landed in six of Celta's eight league phase fixtures last season.

Celtic vs Celta Vigo Team News

Celtic: (4-2-3-1) Viljami Sinisalo; Colby Donovan, Dane Murray, Liam Scales, Kieran Tierney; Callum McGregor, Mika Baur; Haissem Hassan, Benjamin Nygren, Callum Osmand; Camilo Duran.

Celtic boss O'Neill is expected to keep faith with the same XI that blasted past Hearts last weekend.
Camilo Duran will continue to lead the line, with Danish forward Kasper Hogh unlikely to earn a recall this week.

Osmand was withdrawn at half-time against Hearts with a hamstring concern, but O'Neill described the change as precautionary and expects the forward to be available.

Alistair Johnston is back in training but is doubtful to feature while Jota is ineligible after being left out of the Europa League squad.

Cameron Carter-Vickers and Yang Hyun-jun remain sidelined.

O'Neill praised his side's performance after Sunday's emphatic win against Hearts:

“I thought we played really well, really well in the game. Once we got a goal, players got a lot of confidence from that, and we carried it on throughout the 90 minutes, so it was a really good performance from us.

"It was nice to win; it was nice to win in the manner in which we did as well - scored some really great goals. We looked really good going forward. Defensively, I thought the back four did exceptionally well.”

Celta Vigo: (3-4-3) Ionut Radu; Javi Rodriguez, Yoel Lago, Marcos Alonso; Javi Rueda, Ilaix Moriba, Aleix Febas, Sergio Carreira; Hugo Alvarez, Ferran Jutgla, Williot Swedberg.

Celta boss Giraldez is unable to call on several first-team players. Borja Iglesias is ruledo out after the striker suffered a calf injury in training.

Former Celtic defender Carl Starfelt misses out on a return to Glasgow because of a hamstring problem.

Pablo Duran, Miguel Roman and Jones El-Abdellaoui also remain unavailable for the away side.

Verdict

Celtic are rarely involved in dull European contests, with 20 goals scored in four previous continental fixtures this season.

BTTS & over 2.5 goals is my best bet, while I also fancy the hosts to score at least two goals.
