Austria enter their biggest test of the Ice Hockey World Championship so far boasting a perfect 2-0 record.

The Austrians made it to the knockout stage last year, where they were eventually ousted by Switzerland, and they came into this year’s competition looking to at least match that.

They have made the perfect start in that mission, opening the group stage with back-to-back wins.

Austria kicked off their campaign against newly-promoted Great Britain, and they ran out convincing winners as they blew out Team GB, 5-1.

The Austrians then backed that up in their second outing, but they were made to work for a 4-2 win against Hungary.

Switzerland Have Won All Three Games So Far

Switzerland go into this matchup boasting a 100% record, having won all three of their games so far.

The Swiss have appeared in each of the last two finals, but they came up short on both occasions and they will be eager to finally go one better in 2026.

They enjoyed a super start to the tournament as they beat the United States in rematch of last year’s final, running out 3-1 winners.

Switzerland backed that up in their next outing, as they beat Latvia 2-0 the following day.

The Swiss then improved to 3-0 on Monday, as they produced a dominant display to beat Germany 6-1.

Verdict

Switzerland are off to an impressive start – they are winning games and doing it comfortably.

The Swiss can make it four straight wins and cover against an Austria team that may be 2-0, but underwhelmed as they scraped past Hungary on Sunday.
