Alcaraz on Top

Carlos Alcaraz hasn’t lost this year, winning the Australian Open to become the youngest man to claim the Career Grand Slam.

The World No.1 cruised into the semi-finals where he defeated Alexander Zverev in 5 sets. He had a slow start in the final before overpowering Novak Djokovic 2-6 6-2 6-3 7-5.

The Spaniard won another title in Doha, losing one set which came in a 6-7 6-4 6-3 victory over Karen Khachanov. He beat Andrey Rublev 7-6 6-4 in the semi-finals and thrashed Arthur Fils 6-2 6-1 in the final without allowing a break point.

The 22-year-old sent a formidable message to his opponents after the victory: “There is always room for improvement. There's always room for weaknesses.

“As I said, I don't know if it was at the beginning of the tournament or after the first match, that I can see myself with weaknesses. I'm just trying to improve in the practices, just trying to be better on the matches.”

Injury Concerns for Dimitrov

Grigor Dimitrov battled through injuries last year and shut his season down after the Paris Masters. He beat Pablo Carreno Busta in Brisbane before losing his next four matches.

The Bulgarian lost in straight sets to Raphael Collignon and Tomas Machac before a first round exit to Alex Michelsen. He was thrashed in the first round in Acapulco, winning only 26% of his 2nd serves in a 6-3 6-3 defeat to Terence Atmane.

The 34-year-old got some revenge against Atmane in Indian Wells, getting through 6-4 5-7 6-4. Once again his serve was tested, winning 47% of his 2nd serves and saving 2/6 break points.

Dimitrov spoke after the match: "I think I started the match really well but it was just difficult to maintain a solid level.

"I knew that I would get a few chances at some point, so I was just holding onto those moments. It could have gone either way, but I was able to stay very strong in the most important moments."

Verdict

Grigor Dimitrov came to Indian Wells in poor form and lost 6-1 6-1 to Carlos Alcaraz in their previous clash. Alcaraz is aiming for a 13th consecutive win in 2026 and can claim it in quick time.
