UFC 328 Preview
The night’s action in Newark is headlined by no less than two world title fights, with middleweight champion Khamzat Chimaev facing former champion Sean Strickland, while Joshua Van defends the flyweight crown against Tatsuro Taira.
Chimaev is making the first defence of the title he won last August by dethroning Dricus du Plessis via unanimous decision, and he is doing it against a man who is no stranger to holding this championship.
Strickland shocked the world in 2023 when he ended the reigned of Israel Adesanya, but his reign proved to be brief as he lost his first defence against du Plessis several months later.
His attempt to regain the championship just over a year ago ended in failure, as he was again out-pointed by ‘DDP’, but can Strickland now take his latest chance and become the first man to beat Chimaev?
In the co-main event we have another man making his first defence of a UFC title in Van.
He completed his rise to the top of the flyweight ranks last December with a TKO victory against Alexandre Pantoja, and he will now look to turn back the challenge of Taira.
The challenger has bounced back from a split decision defeat to Brandon Royval with back-to-back stoppages wins to set up this title fight, but can Taira now make it three-in-a-row to leave the Prudential Center with the belt?
