Joshua Van Riding 6-Fight Win Streak

Joshua Van is the reigning UFC flyweight champion with a professional record of 18-1 (6 KOs, 8 Subs).

Van debuted in the UFC in June 2023 and quickly reeled off three consecutive victories to establish himself in the flyweight division.

He beat Zhalgas Zhumagulov and Kevin Borjas on points, before scoring his first stoppage win under the UFC banner as he knocked out Felipe Bunes in the second round.

His rise up the ladder was temporarily halted by a knockout loss to Charles Johnson in July 2024, but his response to that setback has been emphatic.

Van returned to winning ways with unanimous decision wins over Edgar Chairez, Cody Durden and Rei Tsuruya.

The 24-year-old Burmese fighter then knocked out Bruno Gustavo da Silva, before out-pointing Brandon Royval to earn a shot at the flyweight title.

Van took his chance too – albeit in less than ideal circumstances – as he beat Alexandre Pantoja via TKO when the champion suffered an arm injury during the fight.

Tatsuro Taira Won Previous 2 Fights

Tatsuro Taira is the number three ranked flyweight contender with a professional record of 18-1 (6 KOs, 8 Subs).

Taira debuted in the UFC in May 2022 boasting a perfect 10-0 record, and he quickly climbed the ladder by reeling off six consecutive victories.

He marked his first outing in the Octagon with a unanimous decision win over Carlos Candelario, and backed that up with a second-round submission of CJ Vergara.

The 26-year-old Japanese fighter then showcased his all-round game in 2023 as he followed up a first-round submission of Jesus Santos Aguilar with a points win over Edgar Chairez and a second-round knockout of Carlos Hernandez.

Taira began his 2024 campaign with a second-round TKO victory against Alex Perez, but later that year he suffered the first defeat of his professional career.

He dropped a split decision to Brandon Royval in a fight that could have earned him a shot at the flyweight title.

Taira rebounded last year though, following up a second-round submission of Park Hyun-Sung with a second-round knockout of Brandon Moreno to land this title shot.

Verdict

Tatsuro Taira is tailor-made for dethroning a high volume, pressure striker like Joshua Van.

His elite grappling and submission skills can help him get Van to the mat and create the opening for a stoppage win.
