Khamzat Chimaev, boasting an unbeaten 15-0 record, is tipped to defend his UFC middleweight title at UFC 328 against former champion Sean Strickland. Chimaev's relentless grappling, striking, and submission skills have proven too much for most opponents, leading analysts to back him for a 16th victory. Though Strickland has a history of pulling off upsets, his recent losses and Chimaev’s dominant form make the Russian the clear favorite to retain his belt.

Khamzat Chimaev Boasts Unbeaten 15-0 Record

Khamzat Chimaev is the defending UFC middleweight champion with a perfect professional record of 15-0 (6 KOs, 6 Submissions).

Chimaev joined the UFC in July 2020 and wasted no time in climbing the ladder as he won three straight fights before the end of the year – all via stoppage.

He submitted John Phillips in the second round in his debut, and followed that up with first-round knockouts of Rhys McKee and Gerald Meerschaert.

The 32-year-old Russian’s rise was slowed due to the pandemic, but when he did return to action he submitted Li Jingliang in the first round in October 2021.

Chimaev followed that up in 2022 when he out-pointed Gilbert Burns over three rounds before submitting Kevin Holland in the first round.

‘The Chechen Wolf’ then beat Kamaru Usman by decision in October 2023 and submitted former champion Robert Whittaker by submission in October 2024, to finally set up a shot at the championship.

He took his big chance in the summer of 2025, as he dethroned Dricus du Plessis by unanimous decision.

Sean Strickland Seeking 31st Professional Win

Sean Strickland is a former UFC middleweight champion with a professional record of 30-7 (12 KOs, 4 Subs).

Strickland joined the UFC in March 2014, and after winning back-to-back fights at middleweight he dropped down to welterweight.

He lost his debut outing at 170lbs, as he was knocked out by Santiago Ponzinibbio, but he rebounded with three consecutive wins, sandwiching a third-round knockout of Alex Garcia with points wins over Igor Araujo and Tom Breese.

The 35-year-old’s run was ended by a points loss to Kamaru Usman, and he then failed to back up a decision success against Court McGee as he was knocked out by Elizeu Zaleski dos Santos.

Strickland bounced back from those setbacks though, with a second-round knockout of Nordine Taleb sparking a six-fight win streak.

‘Tarzan’ went on to out-point Jack Marshman, and then followed up a second-round stoppage of Brendan Allen with decision successes against Krzysztof Jotko, Uriah Hall and Jack Hermansson.

That streak was ended by a knockout loss to Alex Pereira and a decision defeat to Jared Cannonier, but decision win over Nassourdine Imavov and a knockout success against Abusupiyan Magomedov landed him a title shot.

Strickland stunned the world by out-pointing Israel Adesanya, only to quickly lose the title as he dropped a decision to Dricus du Plessis.

He rebounded with a split decision win over Paulo Costa, only to then lose another decision to middleweight champion ‘DDP’ as he attempted to regain the championship.

The American does enter this fight on the back of a win though, having knocked out Alexander Hernandez in February.

Verdict

Sean Strickland has caused major upsets in the past, but we do not expect to see one here.

Khamzat Chimaev can impose his will on this fight and ensure he leaves with the middleweight championship.
