Romania are having a difficult start to the EuroVolley 2026, winning just one out of three games in front of the home crowd in Group D but still having a solid chance to make it to the Round of 16.

After getting stunned in the first match by Latvia (losing 3-1), the Tricolors justified their role as favorites and defeated Switzerland in four sets.

They put up a great fight against heavily favored Germany on Saturday, recovering from a two-set deficit to force a tiebreaker, but lost there 15-13 (3-2 in sets).

Romania were one of the most pleasant surprise packages in the previous European Championship in 2023, reaching the quarterfinals while beating one of the gold medal contenders, France, 3-1 in the group stage, but then losing to the same opponent in the playoffs.

Turkey Back on Track After Two Heavy Losses

Turkey are in an identical position to their upcoming opponents, sharing third place in Group D with one victory and two defeats after three rounds.

Both losses came in the opening two matches against powerhouses Germany 3-1 and France 3-0, while the sole victory was earned yesterday against Switzerland 3-0, limiting the opposition to 61 points in total.

The Crescent Stars had a decent run in the Volleyball Nations League 2026, finishing the regular season in 6th place with an 8-4 record, then losing to Slovenia 3-0 in the quarterfinals.
