Leeds and Newcastle both enter this Premier League fixture at Elland Road in excellent form, each boasting unbeaten streaks of six matches. Leeds are formidable at home with only one loss in their last fifteen games, while Newcastle are tough to beat under new manager Matthias Jaissle. Both teams have injury concerns but expect to field strong lineups. With a historically balanced head-to-head record and frequent draws in recent encounters, a closely-fought match is expected, with a draw being the most likely outcome.

Leeds vs Newcastle Preview

Leeds and Newcastle have made similar impressive starts to the 2026/27 Premier League season. These in-form sides rarely lose and a hard-fought draw is likely at Elland Road.

Key Stats - Tough to Beat Sides

  • Leeds are unbeaten in 6 consecutive home games.
  • Leeds have drawn their last 2 home matches against Newcastle.
  • Newcastle are unbeaten in 6 consecutive games.

H2H - Even Record

Newcastle have a 41-39 advantage against Leeds, alongside 22 draws.

Leeds Are Competitive at Elland Road

Daniel Farke’s Leeds have an excellent long-term home record and are unbeaten in 12 of their last 15. The Whites have won four of their last six league fixtures at Elland Road.

The Yorkshire outfit made a flying start to the new campaign and beat Nottingham Forest 1-0 and 2-0 away. Leeds then drew 1-1 at home against Brentford in their first home game of the season.

Farke’s side followed that stalemate with another 1-1 draw at Brighton. Leeds had 2.5 XG, led through Jayden Bogle’s early goal and conceded late on.

The Whites lost for the first time in nine matches after a 6-3 loss at Chelsea in the EFL Cup. Tarik Muharemovic, Brenden Aaronson and Dominic Calvert-Lewin scored and Leeds conceded six second-half goals.

Newcastle Look Tough to Beat Under Jaissle

Newcastle have made an unbeaten start to the 2026/27 season under new boss Matthias Jaissle.

The Toon have drawn two of their opening three games, both 2-2 at home against Liverpool and Bournemouth. Newcastle’s only league victory this season was a 2-0 win at Tottenham, where Anthony Elanga and Yoane Wissa scored in the second half.

The north east outfit extended their unbeaten run to six games in all competitions following a 1-0 EFL Cup win at Millwall. Jaissle’s side controlled the contest with 1.56 XG and 25 shots and Joe Willock scored an 81st-minute winner.

Predicted Starting Lineups & Team News

Leeds (3-5-2): James Trafford; James Justin, Nico Elvedi, Tarik Muharemovic; Jayden Bogle, Anton Stach, Ethan Ampadu, Ao Tanaka, Gabriel Gudmundsson; Dominic Calvert-Lewin, Noah Okafor

Attacker Mateo Joseph remains sidelined with a knee issue. Centre-back Joe Rodon is also ruled out due to a muscle problem.

Daniel Farke provided a pre-match squad update, explained the team had no new issues and said, "Obviously, Joe Rodon is still out but, apart from this, no new injury concerns so far.”

Newcastle (4-2-3-1): Lukas Hornicek; Amar Dedic, Malick Thiaw, Sven Botman, Lewis Hall; Nico Gonzalez, Lewis Miley; Anthony Elanga, Joe Willock, Harvey Barnes; Yoane Wissa

Defender Dan Burn, midfielder Joelinton and striker William Osula are unavailable with long-term injuries.

Full-back Amar Dedic came off injured at half time against Millwall and Matthias Jaissle said the injury "doesn't look too serious.”

Verdict

Leeds gain a lot of Premier League points at home and are hard to beat. Newcastle have found good early season form under Matthias Jaissle and a closely contested draw is anticipated.
