Hungary were among the first teams to suffer elimination from EuroVolley 2026, and their chances of snatching at least one win before returning home are not looking great. Slovenia will participate in the playoffs but now battle for the best possible placement.

Slovenia Women have already claimed a spot in the EuroVolley 2026 playoffs but can still improve their placement, currently sitting in 4th place in Group A with two wins and two defeats.

After starting the tournament by upsetting Germany 3-0, they suffered back-to-back defeats against current table leaders Turkey 3-1 and Poland 3-0, while their second win was secured on Wednesday against Latvia 3-2.

Slovenia had a good season in the European Golden League, reaching the grand final where they were beaten by Sweden 6-4 on aggregate. Next season, the Slovenians will make their debut appearance in the Volleyball Nations League.

Hungary's Disappointing Campaign

Hungary entered the tournament as one of the weakest sides, and it turned out that label was fully justified, securing just one point in four games (0-4) with a 2-12 set difference.

They didn't win a single point in the opening three games, losing in straight sets to Poland, Turkey and Germany, while losing to Latvia 3-2. In this most recent contest, the Hungarians had a 2-1 lead.

Preparations for the tournament were also disastrous, registering four straight losses, two against Belgium in straight sets, and Spain 3-1 and 3-0.

Slovenia v Hungary

Slovenia will avoid a stronger opponent in the Round of 16 if they secure victory here, and since Hungary are one of the worst performers in the tournament, I am backing the Slovenians to win in handicap.
