Sweden have made a huge step towards securing a EuroVolley 2026 playoff spot after collecting five points from their opening two rounds.
After smashing Montenegro in straight sets in the opener, the Scandinavian side won the opening two sets against another underdog, Slovakia, before dropping two sets and being forced into a tiebreaker. They ultimately won 15-6.
They had a successful run in the European Golden League, becoming champions after beating Slovenia 3-2 in the grand final, while their record throughout the entire run was 10-0.
Italy Marching Through the Tournament
Italy started the tournament yesterday in dominant fashion, cruising past Croatia 3-0 in sets while allowing just nine points to the opposition in the opening set.
A similar scenario was seen in the second round, with Azzurri outplaying Montenegro in straight sets without a lot of trouble and covering a –23.5 point handicap.
Last week, Azzurri claimed back-to-back wins against Ukraine 3-1 and Poland 3-0 in preparation matches, while in late July they won 3rd place in the Volleyball Nations League 2026.
