The NBL strugglers clash for the final time this season and the Taipans appeal most in the Queensland derby. Brisbane have lost 10 straight games and, although Cairns aren't much better, the Taipans should win.

Brisbane Bullets Lose 10 Straight


The Bullets took another beating on Friday losing 114-70 to the Tasmania JackJumpers in Hobart. A 33-14 first quarter blowout set the tone for the evening as Brisbane struggled to maintain any physical defensive pressure and were hampered in their own attack.

The Bullets shot 36.5% from the field and just 14.3% from deep. While the rebounding was roughly on par with their opponent, they gave up the ball 13 times, almost double that of Tassie.

For Brisbane, it has been a long, hard season with major injuries to key players in the squad. For the ones that remain, they are just trying to see it through, but the effort just isn’t there.

Cairns Taipans Showing Some Signs Of Form


Cairns once again showed on Friday that they are capable of hanging with good teams in periods of games. 

They scored 22 points in the first quarter of their 98-84 loss to the Wildcats and added 25 points in the final term, something that has been difficult for them to do of late.

But it is consistent performances over all four quarters which the team needs before they will taste any real success. 

Looking at this game specifically, both teams shot poorly from distance and were extremely good at taking care of the ball. The pace was slower than average and it was only easy makes that separated the two.

Cairns continue to try their best, their best is just not at the same level as everyone else. Until this season finishes, it is likely they produce more of the same, good for a couple quarters, bad for the rest.

Verdict

Take the Taipans to win and cover the line as favourites. Go Over their first quarter total of 24.5 pts, Jack McVeigh to score over 23.5 pts and Andrew Andrews to have over 8.5 assists.
