This is going to be the first FIBA Basketball World Cup appearance for Hungary since 1998, and they enter the tournament as big underdogs.
Their qualifying campaign was quite exhausting, and it started in August 2024 in the preliminaries, travelling to Rwanda to take down Senegal 63-47 in the finals to advance.
The global qualifiers also brought a lot of narrow games and tensions. After losing to Canada and Australia, Hungary needed two wins in the last two rounds to advance, and they found them, 92-81 against Argentina in overtime and 89-74 over Turkey to book their flight to Berlin.
France Looking to Challenge for Another Medal
France were aiming for a medal in the previous World Championship in Australia four years ago, but were stopped in the quarterfinals by China 85-71.
Their most recent accomplishments were the silver medal at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games and bronze medal in Tokyo in 2020.
Les Bleus had an impeccable run at the WC global qualifiers, which were played in front of their crowd, winning all five games. The most impressive win was over 2nd-placed Germany 85-63.
