Sydney Kings are on an eight-game winning run and bidding to complete the season sweep over Illawarra Hawks.

Illawarra Hawks Out Of Title Contention


Illawarra’s hopes of making finals were still high in round 20 after beating Adelaide 100-99 in their Thursday matchup. 

That was then followed by a 106-95 loss to the New Zealand Breakers which ended the chances of the Hawks defending their title.

Turnovers cost them dearly, giving up the ball 17 times in the game, compared to just 9 from their opponent. 

That not only led to fewer shots themselves, but more to the Breakers who were cleaner both at the rim and from deep. 

Illawarra’s pace this season has at times kept them in games, but in others it has been their downfall. Too many turnovers and poor shooting create havoc when trying to defend large totals.

Sydney Kings Make It 8 & Counting


Sydney are on an eight-game win streak and are just half a game behind first placed Adelaide on the ladder. Their most recent outing was a 114-88 demolition of the SE Melbourne Phoenix.

The Kings have scored 105+ pts in five straight games and it is Kendric Davis leading the charge. He scored 30 pts and had nine assists against SEM while giving up just 1 turnover, edging closer to grabbing an MVP trophy. 

Sydney were not good from distance, shooting just 25% from 3pt range, but inside they nailed 77.8% of their shots. One of the best performances of the season in a game that was very heated. 

Verdict

Chalk this one up to the Kings as -10 favourites, given they have won and covered this number in all three games against the Hawks this season. Take the Kings -2.5 in the first quarter and Torrey Craig to go over 13.5 points.
