Nanterre has put themselves in a strong position by stealing one of the first two playoff games away from home. Monaco, meanwhile, faces significant setbacks—key players are injured and captain Mike James is still on strike. These factors heavily favor Nanterre, who are poised to exploit Monaco’s difficulties and take the lead in the series. With the home advantage and Monaco on the back foot, the recommendation is to back Nanterre for another win.

Match Preview

Nanterre return home with momentum after stealing Game 2 on the road to level this French LNB semifinal series. Monaco looked in control for long stretches of the opening two games but now face another difficult challenge as injuries and squad issues continue to affect their rotation.

Nanterre Seizing the Momentum

Nanterre were one of the most pleasant surprise packages in the French LNB regular season, finishing 3rd with a 21-9 record, just one win behind Paris and Monaco.

They opened their quarterfinal series against Le Mans with a convincing 90-74 home victory, taking control early and never looking back. Donta Scott stole the spotlight with 15 points and eight rebounds, before Nanterre followed up with another 64-55 win to advance.

Nanterre stayed competitive through the first half of Game 1 against Monaco but couldn't keep up after the break and eventually lost 103-88, mainly due to poor 45% shooting from the field. Hugo Yimga-Moukouri recorded a double-double with 18 points and 11 rebounds.

Their stubbornness finally paid off in Game 2, causing an upset on Wednesday by beating Monaco 98-89, mostly thanks to unreal numbers in the final quarter which they won 36-18. Mitchell Saxed was man of the match with 10 points and 15 rebounds.

Monaco Facing More Pressure

This entire season has been very controversial for Monaco, marked by inconsistency, a high number of injuries, players going on strike due to financial problems and a disappointing EuroLeague campaign, but it seems they have found stability in the last couple of weeks.

Monaco were expected to face a tough challenge in the LNB quarterfinals against EuroCup winners Bourg, but swept the series with two comfortable victories, 81-75 at home and 114-103 on the road.

The semifinal series against Nanterre started with a commanding 103-88 victory in front of the home crowd on Monday, landing 71% of their two-point attempts. Things were looking good for 30 minutes in Game 2 as well before collapsing and losing 98-89 on Wednesday, having just eight players in rotation.

Verdict

Nanterre are in a fantastic position after stealing one of the opening two games on the road. Monaco are struggling with injuries, while captain Mike James remains on strike, so I am backing the hosts to take the series lead.
