Nanterre were one of the most pleasant surprise packages in the French LNB regular season, finishing 3rd with a 21-9 record, just one win behind Paris and Monaco. They then eliminated Le Mans 2-0 in the quarterfinals.
They stayed competitive through the first half of Game 1 against Monaco but couldn't keep up after the break and eventually lost 103-88, mainly due to poor 45% shooting from the field. Their persistence paid off in Game 2 though, as they claimed a 98-89 road victory to level the series.
Their worst playoff performance of the season came in Game 3, where they suffered a convincing 83-61 defeat in front of the home crowd. Nanterre shot just 33% from the field and committed 23 turnovers in a disappointing display.
Monaco Back in Control
This entire season has been very controversial for Monaco, marked by inconsistency, a high number of injuries, players going on strike due to financial problems and a disappointing EuroLeague campaign, but they remain one of the main title contenders in France.
After cruising past EuroCup winners Bourg 2-0 in the quarterfinals, Monaco opened the semifinals by beating Nanterre 103-88 at home while shooting 71% on two-point attempts. They then suffered a shock 98-89 defeat in Game 2 after collapsing in the final quarter while operating with just an eight-man rotation.
Monaco responded strongly in Game 3, with Elie Okobo and Matthew Strazel leading the way. The duo scored 23 and 21 points respectively to inspire an 83-61 victory and put their side back in front in the series.
