Fabio Wardley is tipped to retain his world heavyweight title by knockout.

There is no doubting that Daniel Dubois is the more skilled of the two fighters, but he can get drawn into a firefight and that is an issue here.

Wardley has the heart and chin to take shots, the cardio to go deep into the fight, and the power to stop Dubois, who has faced questions surrounding his mental strength in the past.

Key Numbers – Can Wardley Make It 22 Unbeaten?

  • Fabio Wardley is unbeaten in 21 professional fights
  • 19 of Fabio Wardley’s 20 career wins have come via knockout
  • All 3 of Daniel Dubois’ losses have been by stoppage

Fabio Wardley Unbeaten After 21 Fights

Fabio Wardley is the reigning and defending WBO world heavyweight champion with a career record of 20-0-1 (19 KOs).

Wardley entered the professional ranks in April 2017 and reeled off a string of knockout wins on his war to English, British, Commonwealth and European heavyweight titles.

The first – and only – blemish on his record did not come until March 2024 when he went to a draw with Frazer Clarke in London.

The 31-year-old Englishman set the record straight in the rematch though, as he knocked out Clarke in the very first round that October.

Wardley then became an interim heavyweight champion for the first time in June of last year when he came back to knock out Justis Huni in the 10th round at Portman Road – the home of hometown soccer team, Ipswich Town.

That earned him the interim WBA championship, but that did not earn him a title shot and he instead faced former world champion Joseph Parker for the interim WBO belt last October.

He came out on top in that fight too, knocking out Parker in the penultimate round to win the belt, and he was later upgraded to full champion status after Oleksandr Usyk relinquished the title.

Daniel Dubois Out To Rebound From World Title Loss

Daniel Dubois is a former world heavyweight champion with a professional record of 22-3 (21 KOs).

Dubois entered the pro ranks in April 2017, and just like Wardley he went on to win English, British and Commonwealth titles as he won the first 15 fights of his career.

That run was brought to a shuddering halt in November 2020, when he was knocked out by Joe Joyce in round 10, but he rebounded from that setback to surge into world title contention.

The 28-year-old knocked out Bogdan Dinu in the second round and then stopped Joe Cusmano in 130 seconds in 2021, and then spent 2022 knocking out Trevor Bryan in the fourth and Kevin Lerena in the third.

Dubois’ run earned him a shot at undisputed heavyweight champion Oleksandr Usyk in the summer of 2023, but he came up short on the night as he was stopped in the ninth round.

He regrouped and ended the year with a 10th round stoppage of Jarrell Miller, before beginning 2024 with an eighth round stoppage of Filip Hrgovic to claim the interim IBF championship.

‘Dynamite’ was later installed as full champion and in his first defence he scored the biggest win of his career to date, knocking out former world champion Anthony Joshua in the fifth round.

However, Dubois proved to be ‘one and done’ as champion, as he was knocked out in the fifth round when he faced Usyk in a rematch last July.

Verdict

Daniel Dubois is capable of boxing the ears of Fabio Wardley, but his desire to engage is a problem.

Wardley has showcased his durability and his punching power over the years, and we are backing him to land the shot that leads to a finish.
