Scotland is set to face Nepal in their upcoming World Cup match at the Wankhede Stadium. Although Scotland cannot advance to the Super 8s following England's victory over Italy, they remain favorites against Nepal. Despite losing two of their last three matches, Scotland has shown competitiveness, with Richie Berrington consistently scoring. Meanwhile, Nepal has struggled to convert its promising positions into victories. Both teams are facing challenges, such as building substantial partnerships. Key players to watch include Scotland's Berrington and Nepal's Dipendra Singh Airee.

Scotland have only managed one win in three games at the tournament but have been competitive in all games. They should have too much quality for Nepal.

Key Stats - Berrington in Fine Form

  • Scotland’s Richie Berrington has scored 46, 42 & 49 in his last 4 innings.
  • Scotland’s Michael Jones has scored 37 & 33 in his last 2 innings.
  • Nepal’s Dipendra Singh Airee hit three sixes in his 47-ball 58 against the West Indies.
  • Nepal’s Rohit Paudel has scored 39 & 23 in his last 3 innings.

Scotland Hold Slender Lead

Scotland lead 2-1 in their three T20I games against Nepal.

Scotland Competitive

Scotland picked up a 73-run win over Italy between defeats to group favourites England and the West Indies.

After a poor start to their innings Scotland recovered to 113/3 in the 13th over thanks to a 71-run stand for the fourth wicket between Richie Berrington (49 off 32) and Tom Bruce (24 off 18). Oliver Davidson (20* off 15) was the only other batter to reach double figures as they were bowled out for 152 in the 20th over.

Michael Leask is Scotland’s leading bowler in the tournament, and followed up figures of 1/42 and 4/17 with a solid 1/33 against England. Four other Scotland bowlers picked up a single wicket, but they couldn’t deny England from pushing through for a five-wicket win off 18.2 overs.

Nepal Finding their Feet

After almost beating England in their opening match of the World Cup, Nepal suffered a 10-wicket defeat to Italy before losing to the West Indies by nine wickets.

Dipendra Singh Airee (58 off 47) was again the backbone of the Nepal innings. The only other batter to reach 20 was Sompa Kami, who hit four fours in his 15-ball 26*.

Nandan Yadav took 1/24 against the West Indies on the back of figures of 2/25 against England and 0/12 against Italy. None of the other bowlers enjoyed success with the ball, but Dipendra Singh Airee was the tightest of the Nepal bowlers, going for just 5.70 runs to the over.

Scotland vs Nepal News & Squads

Scotland skipper Richie Berrington admitted in his post-match interview that his side had failed to put substantial partnerships together in their defeat against England.

"I thought it was a really good surface to bat on, but the difference was partnerships through the middle. We knew spin was going to be key through the middle, but our execution was slightly off. We didn't quite click in that phase,” said Berrington.

“The whole bowling effort was really good and I am proud of the fight we showed. Just a few more runs on the board would have been nice,” added Berrington

Nepal captain Rohit Paudel admitted on TV that batting first against the West Indies had been a challenge.

"It was a challenge, especially the way Matthew Forde, Akeal Hosein and Jason Holder were bowling in the powerplay. They used the conditions really well. As a batting unit, we failed again and we need to step up,” said Paudel.

“We are missing out on batting partnerships. We are getting stands of 20 or 30 but not stretching them. As batters, those of us getting starts are not converting them into big scores. Those are the areas where we need to improve,” added Paudel.

Scotland squad: Richie Berrington (c), Tom Bruce, Matthew Cross, Brad Currie, Oliver Davidson, Chris Greaves, Zainullah Ihsan, Michael Jones, Michael Leask, Finlay McCreath, Brandon McMullen, George Munsey, Safyaan Sharif, Mark Watt, Bradley Wheal.

Nepal squad: Rohit Paudel (c), Dipendra Singh Airee, Sandeep Lamichhane, Kushal Bhurtel, Aasif Sheikh, Sundeep Jora, Aarif Sheikh, Basir Ahamad, Sompal Kami, Karan KC, Nandan Yadav, Gulshan Jha, Lalit Rajbanshi, Sher Malla, Lokesh Bam.

Verdict

I am backing Scotland to win. I am also backing Richie Berrington to top score for Scotland.

Dipendra Singh Airee is a good bet to top score for Nepal.
