Everything is ready for the next big stop on the Counter-Strike 2 esports calendar, as 32 of the world’s best teams head to Cologne, Germany, for the Major Championship.
Intel Extreme Masters Cologne Major 2026 is the first CS2 Major tournament of the season and one of the biggest events of the year.

Scheduled to kick off on Tuesday, June 2, the IEM Cologne Major is shaping up to become one of the most memorable Majors in history, as it heads to the LANXESS arena in Germany, known for creating some of the most memorable moments in CS history.

As the biggest event of the year, the Cologne Major will welcome the world’s top 32 teams, who will battle for the coveted trophy and the lion’s share of the US$1,250,000 prize pool.

With a lot on the line, the competition is expected to be fierce, and the stacked list of teams in attendance ensures an event full of unforgettable moments.

But while the Cologne Major will not lack top-tier talent, the divide between the main title contenders and the rest is evident. The top-rated bookmakers have listed Team Vitality as the clear favourites to go all the way, with just a handful of teams given a realistic chance to challenge the high-flying Bees.

Given Vitality’s dominance over the last year, the outright markets do not show any surprises. However, while Vitality are the main contenders, there is no shortage of teams who will be eager to derail the world’s most dominant team and prove they can deliver on the big stage.

Here is all you need to know about IEM Cologne Major, including the tournament format, favourites, and which are the best esports bookmakers with outright and match markets.

Intel Extreme Masters Cologne Major 2026 Favourites

Intel Extreme Masters Cologne Major features 32 of the world’s highest-rated teams, ensuring a highly competitive field. However, of the 32 squads, only a handful have a realistic chance of going all the way.

Sitting atop the power rankings are Team Vitality, which comes as no surprise to anyone. Vitality were the most successful team of 2025, with two Major titles and 10 big trophies.

Things haven’t changed much in 2026, as Vitality have collected six tournament titles from eight events attended.

They crashed out of IEM Atlanta in fifth-sixth place in May, marking their worst tournament run since BLAST Bounty Spring 2025 in January. That minor hiccup, however, proves little, and it does not take away from what Vitality have accomplished this season.

Close behind Team Vitality as serious title contenders are Natus Vincere, who claimed the IEM Atlanta title this month and have been posting promising results over the last few months.

Besides the IEM Atlanta title, NaVi also placed second in BLAST Rivals and BLAST Open, and won the ESL Pro League. While their trophy haul is not as extensive, NaVi are one of the very few teams in the world to have beaten Team Vitality.

Team Spirit are also not to be ignored. While their accomplishments this season aren’t as impressive as those of Vitality or Natus Vincere, Spirit have recently been finding momentum and are slowly reaching their full potential.

They will begin the Major in Stage 2, which introduces an additional hurdle, but it could work in Spirit’s benefit as they will have a chance to warm up and build on the momentum from PGL Astana, where they dominated the field and emerged as one of the world’s elite.

Team Falcons round up the list of teams priced at single digits. Widely known as a team who’re always a bridesmaid, never a bride, Team Falcons have shown signs of life this season. Thea placed third in IEM Rio, second in Astana and again second in the recent CS Asia Championships.

Known to struggle at the final hurdles, the Falcons are not among the top contenders to claim the Major trophy. But their consistency of making deep playoff runs makes the Falcons a threat to disrupt the balance of power in Germany.
