The 2026/27 Community Shield pits Arsenal against Manchester City, with neither side entering in top form. Analysts predict a cautious opener, with a draw considered the most likely outcome—especially a 1-1 result. Bettors are advised to consider the draw market (3.5 odds) and a 1-1 scoreline (7.5 odds, lower stake). The key takeaway: expect a closely contested match without a clear favorite.

Arsenal have a 101-67 advantage against Man City, alongside 48 draws.

Arsenal Had an Inconsistent Pre-Season

Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal will compete in the 2026/27 Community Shield after winning last season’s Premier League. The London side were undefeated in 33 of their 38 league matches.

Arsenal ended the 2025/26 campaign with a 1-1 draw to PSG in the Champions League final and lost on penalties.

The Gunners responded with a 4-1 pre-season friendly win against Girona. Consecutive defeats against Real Betis 3-1 and Borussia Dortmund 3-2 came next.

Arteta’s team played out a 1-1 home friendly draw with Como on Wednesday. Arsenal dominated with 2.43-0.25 XG and Miles Lewis-Skelly’s opener was canceled out by Como’s first-half equaliser.

Man City Slowly Building Under Maresca

Man City qualified for the Community Shield after lifting the 2025/26 FA Cup in May. The Citizens beat Chelsea 1-0 in the final.

City were winless in their last two matches last season following the FA Cup triumph. They drew 1-1 at Bournemouth and lost 2-1 at Aston Villa.

Enzo Maresca was appointed as City’s new manager this summer and led his side to an unbeaten pre-season. The Citizens began with a 1-1 draw against Inter Milan and beat K-League All Stars 3-1.

The Manchester outfit completed pre-season with a 3-1 comeback victory over Atletico Madrid. City trailed 1-0 at half time and Omar Marmoush’s double and a late Rayan Ait-Nouri third sealed the win.

Predicted Starting Lineups & Team News

Arsenal (4-2-3-1): Kepa Arrizabalaga; Ben White, Cristhian Mosquera, Gabriel, Riccard Califiori; Miles Lewis-Skelly, Martin Odegaard; Max Dowman, Eberechi Eze, Christos Tzolis; Viktor Gyokeres

Defensive duo William Saliba and Jurrien Timber are sidelined with long-term injuries.

Midfielder Declan Rice and attacker Bukayo Saka are available for selection after an extended rest period.

Mikel Arteta was cautious over confirming Bruno Guimaraes' role for the Man City game and said, "We’ll have to see. He’s only had three training sessions, but he looked good."

Man City (4-2-3-1): Gianluigi Donnarumma; Rico Lewis, Matheus Nunes, Ruben Dias, Rayan Ait-Nouri; Nico Gonzalez, Tijjani Reijnders; Savinho, Phil Foden, Antoine Semenyo; Omar Marmoush

Midfielder Rodri is recovering from back surgery and is ruled out.

Erling Haaland is likely to return to Man City’s squad after missing pre-season. The striker had additional rest after the 2026 World Cup.

Verdict

Arsenal and Man City won’t want to lose this 2026/27 season opener. Neither side looks in top form and a draw is likely in the Community Shield.
