Arsenal vs Sporting CP Predictions & Betting Tips - Cagey Clash Expected in the Champions League

Arsenal managed a narrow triumph over Sporting CP in Lisbon, securing victory with a last-minute goal. Despite their win, Arsenal's recent form shows worrying trends as they have lost three of their last four matches. In contrast, Sporting remains competitive across three fronts, including Liga Portugal. Anticipating a low-scoring affair when Sporting visits London, Arsenal will focus on defense to frustrate their opponents. Both teams will aim to overcome injuries as they face off, with Arsenal's chances of a win hinging on maintaining tactical discipline.

Arsenal kept it tight in Lisbon before emerging victorious in added time. Sporting could struggle to break the Gunners down in London, under 2.5 goals my only selection here.

HTH - Gunners Undefeated

Arsenal are unbeaten in eight encounters against Sporting CP, earning four wins alongside four draws.

Arsenal in Danger of Fading Away

Arsenal’s season is in danger of imploding after losing three of their last four games. The poor run of form started with a 2-0 loss against Manchester City in the League Cup final.

The Gunners were then knocked out of the FA Cup after a 2-1 defeat at Championship side Southampton. They had 23-8 shots and 7-4 on target but were ineffective up front.

Mikel Arteta’s side were unconvincing in their Champions League quarter-final clash at Sporting CP last week. David Raya made two great saves before Kai Havertz’s added time goal secured a 1-0 victory.

Arsenal returned to the Premier League with a 2-1 home defeat to Bournemouth. Viktor Gyokeres equalised in the first half but once again they couldn’t take their chances, ending with 2.32-1.19 xG.

Arteta spoke after the match: “Disappointing. It's a big punch in the face and it's about how we react now. They are a team who haven't lost for 11 games for a reason, they did a lot right.

“We were far from efficient. The first chance they had to attack the box, it's a deflection, a bad defending action and it's a goal. That's something we have to recover from. The second half you expect a different game. We did a lot of strange things today.”

Sporting Still Alive in Three Competitions

Sporting won three straight games before meeting Arsenal in the Champions League last week. They scored 13 goals in that run including a 5-0 extra time win over Bodo/Glimt in the round of 16 second leg.

Maxi Araújo hit the bar in the opening minutes against the Gunners and Luis Suárez went close in the second half. The game appeared to be heading to a 0-0 draw before they conceded in added time and lost 1-0.

The Lions won 1-0 at Estrela da Amadora on Saturday to keep their narrow title hopes alive in Liga Portugal. Daniel Bragança got the start and scored the winning goal, his fifth this season.

Rui Borges was pleased with the victory: “It was a difficult game against a team that defended very well in the first half. We controlled the game, but didn't create many clear-cut chances.

“In the first half, we were slow with possession and lacked inspiration. Above all, we played a very competitive game. It was also a difficult day, with wind and cold. We knew it was important to win today. I was happy with what the team gave, despite our lack of inspiration.”

Predicted Lineups & Team News

Arsenal (4-2-3-1) David Raya; Ben White, William Saliba, Gabriel Magalhães, Piero Hincapié; Martin Zubimendi, Declan Rice; Noni Madueke, Eberechi Eze, Leandro Trossard; Viktor Gyokeres

Mikel Merino and Bukayo Saka are injured with Jurrien Timber, Riccardo Calafiori and Martin Odegaard recently joining the list.

Piero Hincapié was on the bench against Bournemouth and Eberechi Eze played a role, both players a chance to start here.

Declan Rice was one of five players who missed training on Tuesday. Arteta said: "We have to wait until tomorrow morning to see how a few of the boys are, and then make the right decision with them."

Sporting CP (4-2-3-1) Rui Silva; Georgios Vagiannidis, Ousmane Diomande, Goncalo Inacio, Maxi Araújo; Morten Hjulmand, Hidemasa Morita; Geny Catamo, Trincao, Pedro Gonçalves; Luis Suarez

Nuno Santos, Luis Guilherme and Fotis Ioannidis have been joined on the injury list by Iván Fresneda and. Zeno Debast has travelled to London where he could be an option off the bench.

Geovany Quenda came off the bench in Amadora and could get some more minutes in London. Morten Hjulmand was suspended for the first leg but will return to the starting side here.

Verdict

Arsenal are in poor form and had a lot of luck in their 1-0 win in Lisbon last week. The Gunners are likely to frustrate Sporting once again, a low game to end under 2.5 goals.
