Celtic face Kilmarnock in the Scottish Premiership and are tipped to win with over 3.5 goals in the match. Celtic have won 16 of their last 19 league games and their last nine meetings with Kilmarnock, including a 5-1 victory earlier this season. The Hoops are coming off a 3-2 Europa League win over Besiktas and have averaged 4.3 goals per game in their last seven fixtures. Kilmarnock, meanwhile, have conceded 28 goals in 12 league matches, underlining their defensive vulnerabilities.

Celtic vs Kilmarnock Predictions

Celtic welcome Kilmarnock to Parkhead in Sunday's Scottish Premiership contest.

The Hoops should maintain winning form after a thrilling midweek victory against Besiktas.

I fancy Celtic to win with at least four match goals at Parkhead.

Hoops Backed for High-Scoring Victory

  • Celtic won 16 of their last 19 matches (Premiership)
  • Celtic have seen over 3.5 goals in 4 of their last 6 home matches
  • Celtic won 9 of their last 10 matches against Kilmarnock
  • Celtic have seen over 3.5 goals in 4 of their last 5 matches against Kilmarnock
  • Kilmarnock lost 4 of their last 6 away matches (Premiership)
  • Kilmarnock have seen over 3.5 goals in 4 of their last 5 matches

Celtic Dominate H2H Record

Celtic and Kilmarnock have met on 22 occasions since the start of 2020. Celtic claimed 18 victories, while Kilmarnock picked up just two wins. Two games finished as draws.

Celtic won their last nine meetings, including a 5-1 victory at Rugby Park in August.

Celtic Looking to Build on European Success

Celtic return to Premiership action after a dramatic 3-2 victory against Besiktas in Thursday's Europa League contest at Parkhead.

The Turkish visitors took the lead through Junior Olaitan in the 54th minute, before substitute Callum Osmand levelled with a fine strike from the edge of the box.

Fellow sub Camilo Duran then put Celtic ahead in the 78th minute before Orkun Kokcu equalised seven minutes later. Duran would not be denied, though, with the Colombian's second goal of the evening securing a much-needed European victory.

Martin O'Neill's men made the most of their chances despite a difficult night against the Turkish side. Celtic had just 38% possession and were outshot 15-10, with Besiktas also recording the higher xG total (1.59-1.19).

The under-pressure hosts had lost their first three Europa League, league phase fixtures, while they also slipped to a shock defeat at Falkirk last weekend.

Despite that defeat, Celtic remain top of the Scottish Premiership, four points clear of Rangers, albeit having played one game more.

Frequently involved in high-scoring contests, an average of 4.3 goals per game were scored in the hosts' seven most recent fixtures.

Kilmarnock Held by Saints

Kilmarnock make the trip to Glasgow after a frustrating 2-2 home draw against St Johnstone last Saturday.

Cathal McCarthy gave Killie an early lead after the visitors had been reduced to ten men, before Danny Schmidt equalised shortly before half-time.

Djenairo Daniels restored Kilmarnock's advantage, but Joel Cotterill struck midway through the second half to secure a point for the visitors.

Neil McCann's side will feel they should have taken all three points. Kilmarnock enjoyed 63% possession and registered 22 shots compared to St Johnstone's six.

Final xG totals also reflected the home side's superiority. Killie recorded a 3.30 xG total against their opponents' 0.75, but were unable to turn their dominance into a much-needed three points.

Killie have now failed to win each of their last three games, and only two of their previous 11.
Defensively vulnerable, the Ayrshire side have conceded 28 goals in just 12 Premiership fixtures this season.

Celtic vs Kilmarnock Team News

Celtic: (4-2-3-1) Sam Johnstone; Colby Donovan, Cameron Carter-Vickers, Liam Scales, Kieran Tierney; Callum McGregor, Mika Baur; Benjamin Nygren, Callum Osmand, Sebastian Tounekti; Camilo Duran.

Celtic boss Martin O'Neill is likely to make changes to his starting XI after Thursday's 3-2 Europa League win against Besiktas.

Camilo Duran and Callum Osmand are both expected to earn recalls after their impressive performance from the bench. Duran scored twice, while Osmand registered a goal and an assist.

Alistair Johnston and Yang Hyun-Jun remain sidelined with hamstring injuries.

Speaking after Thursday's contest, O'Neill expressed his relief at securing a first Europa League win of the season:

"It's a relief we've got off the mark, and we've got some points on the board. The game was pretty difficult, but we came through it with flying colours.

"I just said to the team they were a credit to the football club; you can't get a bigger accolade than that. We could've caved in after the penalty goes in, but we came roaring back, and the subs made a big difference.

“We've got a lot of pace up front, but I was just delighted with the whole team.”

Kilmarnock: (3-4-1-2) Nicolas Mantl; Cathal McCarthy, Robbie Deas, George Stanger; Jamie Brandon, Aaron Tshibola, Tom Lowery, Erik Ring; Greg Kiltie; Djenairo Daniels, Joe Hugill.

Kilmarnock boss Neil McCann is also expected to make some changes after last Saturday's 2-2 draw against St Johnstone.

Tyreece John-Jules and Nicky Clescenco are among those in contention to earn recalls.

Bailey Rice remains sidelined with a groin injury, while goalkeeper Maksymilian Stryjek is unavailable because of a knee problem.

Head coach McCann expressed his frustration after last week’s draw against St Johnstone:

"In terms of the amount of chances we created, we just didn't take them.

"That being said, a man up, 2-1 up, you shouldn't lose two points.

"Sometimes when you're a man up it's difficult because that team are working ever so hard, it's difficult to play against, and it requires patience. I felt the uneasiness around the stadium, even when we were 2-1 up, and the players looked like they were being affected by it”

Verdict

Celtic should claim another Premiership victory against a leaky Kilmarnock side.

The Hoops scored five goals against Killie earlier this season, and another high-scoring victory is expected at Parkhead.

I'm backing Celtic to win with at least four goals scored.
