CFR Cluj finished the previous Romanian Liga I season in third place, seven points behind the champions Craiova and hope to improve on that this year under new head manager Antonio Folha who was appointed in early July.

Voluntari earned promotion to the top flight in the previous campaign, finishing 3rd in Liga II behind Corvinul and Sepsi, then defeated FC Hermannstadt 5-3 on aggregate in the playoffs. 

Their pre-season campaign was a success, earning victories against Nafta 3-0, Tiszakescske 3-2 and Farul Constanta 3-0, while the only loss was recorded against Varazdin 2-1. 

In the Liga I opening round, Voluntari hosted Botosani and secured one point in a 2-2 draw thanks to late equalizer scored by George Merloi. Both sides combined had a total of 6.70 xG and 31 shots.

Hosts will be without Ilija Masic who is out with an Achilles tendon rupture.

Alexandru Git is out for Voluntari (muscle problem), while Andrei Pitian is recovering from an ankle injury.

CFR Cluj are one of prime title contenders this season and I expect them to collect three points here. However, they allowed 32 shots in the opening two matches, so a home win & BTTS is also worth backing.
