Chengdu Rongcheng vs Beijing Guoan Predictions & Tips - Beijing Backed to Avoid CSL Defeat

Chengdu Rongcheng, leaders of the Chinese Super League, look vulnerable as they host in-form Beijing Guoan. While Chengdu have struggled with four consecutive draws and shaky defense, Beijing arrive unbeaten in six, winning five. The visitors also have a solid head-to-head and away record. Both teams are reliable scorers, so 'both teams to score' is recommended. Beijing are also strong in the double chance market (win or draw). Team changes are expected for both sides due to recent matches, making this a matchup to watch.

Chengdu Rongcheng vs Beijing Guoan Predictions

Chinese Super League leaders Chengdu Rongcheng welcome Beijing Guoan to the Wuliangye Sports Center Stadium on Sunday.

John Aloisi’s hosts have gone off the boil, and they could struggle to overcome an in-form Guoan side.

BTTS looks like a solid pick, while I also fancy the visitors to at least avoid defeat.

Beijing to Test CSL Leaders

  • Chengdu Rongcheng have seen BTTS in their last 5 matches
  • Chengdu Rongcheng failed to win 6 of their last 9 matches
  • Chengdu Rongcheng have seen BTTS in 5 of their last 6 matches against Beijing
  • Beijing Guoan are unbeaten in 7 of their last 10 matches against Chengdu
  • Beijing Guoan are unbeaten in 11 of their last 12 matches
  • Beijing Guoan have seen BTTS in 8 of their last 10 matches

Beijing Edge H2H Record

Chengdu Rongcheng and Beijing Guoan have met on ten previous occasions. Beijing picked up four wins, while Chengdu triumphed three times.

Guoan are unbeaten in three of four previous visits to the Wuliangye Sports Center Stadium.

Chengdu Rongcheng Held Again

Chengdu return to Super League action after suffering a painful penalty-shootout defeat against Yunnan Yukun in the CFA Cup on Tuesday.

Despite taking the lead three times, Rongcheng failed to finish the job as ten-man Yukun repeatedly fought back to force a 3-3 draw.

After a goalless period of extra time, Chengdu eventually suffered a 3-2 defeat in the resulting penalty shootout.

Led by former Australia international John Aloisi, Rongcheng have now failed to win each of their last four matches. All four games finished as draws.

The Pandas’ form has certainly dipped in the past couple of months. Aloisi’s side won only three of their last nine fixtures. They had won 11 of 12 previous matches.

Despite dropping points in each of their last three CSL matches, Chengdu retain a 14-point advantage at the summit of the division.

Clean sheets have also become less frequent for the CSL leaders. Roncheng conceded one goal or more in eight of their ten most recent contests.

Beijing Guoan Maintain Winning Form

Beijing make the trip to Chengdu with confidence building after a midweek CFA Cup win at Dalian Kewei. Feifan Jia opened the scoring in first-half stoppage time before Zhang Yuning doubled their advantage in the second period.

Ge Yuxiang’s late reply proved consolation only as Guoan secured a 2-1 win against their lower-league opponents.

Nick Montgomery’s men have steadily picked up form in the past couple of months. Beijing are unbeaten in their last six games, with five wins picked up in that period.

Before their recent improvements, Guoan had failed to win ten of 13 previous fixtures.

Solid on their travels, Montgomery’s men are unbeaten in their last five away CSL encounters.

Usually a reliable choice to score, the Imperial Guards scored at least one goal in 20 of 21 games played this year.

Chengdu Rongcheng vs Beijing Guoan Team News

Chengdu Rongcheng: (5-2-3) Dianzuo Liu; Yiran He, Pengfei Han, Egor Sorokin, Hetao Hu; Gan Chao, Matheus Jussa; Wellington Silva, Romulo, Shihao Wei; Felipe.

Head coach Aloisi is likely to make changes to his first XI after a gruelling midweek defeat at Yukun.
Wang Dongsheng, Matheus Jussa and Gan Chao could earn recalls after appearing from the bench in midweek.

Beijing Guoan: (4-4-2) Sen Hou; Yupeng He, Dawhan, Guilherme Ramos, Yang Bai; Beni Nkololo, Aboubacar Konte, Serginho, Liangming Lin; Fabio Abreu, Yuning Zhang.

Beijing boss Montgomery is likely to revert to much of the side that started last week’s 1-1 draw against Tieren. Fabio Abreu is among those expected to return to the selection after missing the midweek win at Dalian Kewei.

Verdict

Beijing are in better form, and look likely to trouble the CSL leaders this weekend.

I have a stake on both teams to score, while I also like Beijing in the double chance market.
